Simply can't buy a(nother) rifle right now but a Savage 99 takedown in 250-3000 caught my eye a little while ago in the used gun rack @ the Ft Worth Cabelas. Seemed like a well used but solid rifle. Didn't want to risk having them untie the bolt so I could look at the bore. Also neglected to make a note of the serial number or take a few pics. Not sure if the price was in line with value, think it was $699. I have no interest in the 250-3000 cartridge but even so it was pretty hard to walk away from.
No, I don't work for Cabelas but I think a few members in the area may be interested in this old rifle. but I don't know what a good price would be on this rifle but I know the guys that price 99's for the used rack don't much care for them and generally price accordingly.

Not a horrible price. Very solid gun, its been around awhile. The 250 savge is a great medium game cartridge. If it has a good bore its a good buy.

Glad it is there and not where I can look at it face to face. It is a caliber that I don't or even have a use for, but want for some reason, and I'm also partial to the takedowns.

I've been avoiding the quarter bore for probably 30 years but I know the 250-3000 is probably hard to beat for TX deer hunting. It has been gently used for many years, no sign of abuse but it's probably spent more time in the woods than I have.

I personally don't like the TD 99's. The TD design of the Savage has no adjustment, so over the years most of them are loose. That can be fixed, but its a pain, so my 99's are not the TD version.

I just like them, no particular reason. I guess because that is what I have had for the last 40 years. I know they can get loose, but mine is still tight, and supposedly built in 32, so if I come across one that isn't loose, I don't think I will worry about it.

I think the 250 would be a great deer cal, but we don't have any deer. lol

This one is tight, I was able to check that.

I've loved 99s since I saw one as a kid in the early 60s. 250-3000 was not as popular in the Maine woods; I remember seeing only one. We used to see lots of 300s and 308s but lately everyone carries a bolt gun. I'm headed to the woods right now with one in 308.

Personally, I prefer TD Savages over solid frames. I never had an issue with accuracy. The tricks used to tighten a loose TD barrel are easy peasy, involving a small ball peen hammer and gently gently gently peening the threads. If the rifle the OP saw is a 99G, the price is decent. If it is the earlier M1899 .250-3000 model, it is a steal and someone should grab it.

Hopefully it won't be there this weekend. I'll put a soft case in the car.
