What bore guide do you use for a 45-70 Pedersoli? Can drill out old brass for it.Any ideas? Thanks Rick

Old brass drilled out to accept the cleaning rod works. I use it for my 45-70 and 45-90 rifles. The hole should be fairly close to the rod diameter so the rod won't touch the rifling in front of the case. I also use a length of clear plastic tubing that is a close fit in the chamber. This also centers the rod and I keep a short length permanently on the rod in case I forget the modified case.

What I do.
Open action
Turn rifle upside down in cradle
Keep muzzle a little lower than breech
Use long, 30+ cal Dewey rod
Put muzzle guard on rod (common item for the frontstuffers)
Clean from muzzle

Use a wooden or brass dowel for first swabing. Then a "Boresnake" cleaning-rope is a must have. With just a few passes with the "Boresnake" the bore will be spotless. The ropes clean up real easy in hot soapy water.
If you clean from the breech a drilled out 45-70 case works just fine. If for some reason you have to clean from the muzzle just about all the good rod makers have a bore guide. I simply turn a 45 degree cone of scrap brass or aluminum and put one on each rod.

If you have dies for another bottle necked cartridge that the 45-70 cartridge will start into, you can size the mouth of the 45-70 down a bit. Then drill out the head for your cleaning rod. With the thing installed on your rod you can then use it for either the chamber or the muzzle.
