I sent my Lyman 429640 HP to Erik for removal of the g/c shank.
He does fantastic work. The mold arrived and I made a few " test cast ".

I couldn't be any happier with Erik's work ! !

Thanks,
Ben

If I can't , it won't be the bullet's fault.

I'll be shooting these out of my " Super 14" , 44 Mag.
It is scoped now and is shooting great .

You really don't like gas checks do you?You certainly do a lot of good shooting without them though!I have the Mihec version of that mould, also PB. Mine is a little fatter at 0.434" to suit my Marlin. I like it a lot. I am sure you will enjoy those... and yes, I can see Erik does great work.Longbow

That is quite possibly the best boolit out there for killing whitetail deer.

I suppose that's why I bought the mihec cramer version to complement my lyman.

I probably use my HP 429421 more frequently than the 429640, I assume for the same reason Ben removed the gas check shank from his.
About the only advantage I see to gas checking a hollow point .44 is the design might be more forgiving with soft alloys. Despite being a scooch smaller than optimum, 50/50 pure to WW works just fine in my redhawk with all my hollowpoint gas checked .44s, which include the 215, 244 and 640.

I like my mihec but you have to cast very quickly with it. It like to be kept hot.

Wow!! I bet those would be a real killer in my 24" barrel'd 44-40.

The g/c shank on this 429640 was TIGHT.
It shaved lead with Hornady g/cs when seating the check. I was never totally happy with that aspect of the mold.

Considering the cost of ordering Hornady .44 cal. g/c's - - ( they aren't cheap right now ), slowing me down with g/c installation and knowing that each one of them was shaving lead, it just seemed like the thing to do to make life simpler and remove the g/c shank.

Again, Erik did a great job on the removal !

I don't know if I mentioned that I have a flat point HP pin for this mold also. Here are some photos of the flat points while the mold was still a g/c design.

I have the following HP pins for this mold.
Makes for a pretty versatile combination :

That is a nice looking hollow point boolit and still has some serious weight behind it.
The contender looks nice as well. Should be an awesome combination.

The 14 " Super Contender is a real shooter.
I'm impressed, each time I shoot it.

I've yet to shoot the 640 plain base in it,
but that will change in the next few days.

Ben--Just so you know, the plain based version of Lyman's 429640 I have, has kilt deer for me. Shot outta my 629-3 Classix DX 5" bbl and 17g of WC 820, the boolit created quite a nice wound channel and was recovered sticking in the hide on the off side. This was from a fairly large whitetail doe taken at about 50 yds. I am fortunate to have this design in both PB, that I use for revolver hunting and GC for use in my Marlin 444's, driving them at 2200 fps.

Shuz :

I realize that you can't tell much from the " looks " of a cast bullet.
BUT.....this one just looks like it will do the job well.
