I have a decision to make. That decision is between a 270 Win and a 30 06.

I really want either one of them, I have neither caliber in any other firearm.

From the swaging/ reloading perspective, which will bring me the most joy?

Should I go with common brass/components such as the 30 06?

If I already have 308 dies should I just make heavier projos?

Will I be missing anything if I dont pick up the 270?

Anyways someone help a guy out...

I would go with the 30-06 .308 bullet there are a lot of different 30 caliber cartridges.
I have a 300 Win Mag a 300 WSM a 30-30 have been thinking about a 308 & Had a 30-06 for years.
I also like the 270

Are you asking which is easier to "swage" projectiles for or which is easier to "reload" for?

Neither. I'm not interested in easy necessarily, I was just trying to imagine the possibilities. Right now I'm leaning toward 30 06 for reasons the Swede has mentioned, but I have not made up my mind yet.

If a 6.8 spc was on your wish list, it would share the same bullet diameter as the .270.
The shear number of 30 cal rifles out there make 30 caliber jackets easier to buy.
Making jackets from 9mm brass requires less steps to make the 30s.

If you had plenty of 17winchester super rimfire magnum brass and wanted to make jackets from it. Then 270
might be a better choice.

My choice would be .30'06.

I swage for both but 30 cal jackets are much easier to get. I made two draw dies and draw 30 cal jackets to 0.2825 and then to 0.2765 so as long as I can get 30 cal jackets I can shoot 30 cals., 284 s and 270 s.

30/06 all the way, projectiles are always easier to find for a 30 cal than a 270....just as an example the last big surplus lots I've purchased had 6,000 30 cal bullets in them. Last year I purchased my first 270 barrel for a switch barrel frame I have and when I went looking through my stuff for bullets I found all of 11.....11 bullets for my 270....so I looked around until I found a 06 barrel and sold the 270. I have slowly been acquiring 30 cal jackets in case I ever decide to take up swaging for them....but with current stock on hand its doubtful I'll need to any time soon.

Personally, I like the 270 Win better as a cartridge. Logistically, swaging for 30 cal makes more sense, though. There is just more stuff produced for 30 cal than for 27 cal.

How well would a .264 jacket work for the 270? .264 jackets are easy enough to find.

I've got a 1000 .264 jackets coming from Richard. When they get here I'll try them to make .277 bullets. That would sure be nicer than drawing .308 s twice and then trimming them.
