Had a nice doe walk right out in front of me tonight at around 40 yards. My .50 Pedersoli Scout shoots a PRB high with the rear buckhorn sight all the way down, so I held low and belched fire. When the smoke cleared I expected to see vittles, instead I saw the doe bounding away, no worse for wear. Looked for an hour for blood or hair but found none. Found the spot where she pushed off and where the round ball hit. Still not quite sure what happened, I have shot at that range quite a bit and was pretty confident. My best guess is that I just misaligned the sights in the last few minutes of shooting light.

The ones that get away seemingly unexplainable like that are the ones you'll always remember. I've had two similar situations like that that i know i'll never figure out what happened. All i know for sure is...if you hunt long enough it seems to happen to the best somewhere along the line. Lol, you'll nail the next one!
