When I process buckets of wheel weights I normally lose about 15% to trash, plus or minus a little depending on the shop standards for what goes into the bucket.

Those of you who have access to the lead from an indoor range, what kind of yield do you get?

Thanks.

I spread out my take after I "mine" the backstop and remove jackets & backstop media (ground rubber tire) so what I put into the pot is mostly lead bullets and intact jacketed bullets. Even so I think my effective yield is maybe 75-80%. I never thought to weigh the load going INTO the pot, so this is a guesstimate.

That's just what I get too. You are accurate.

From an indoor range I get more like 2/3 lead and 1/3 jackets and junk back.

The indoor range scrap I was getting yielded 70 - 75%.

The indoor range scrap I get seems to yield 60-70% useable lead after smelting, cleaning and pouring into ingots. The only things I pick out as the the scrap goes into the pot are shotgun wads (plastic REALLY stinks and smokes when it melts), pieces of cardboard, and the occassional piece of floor tile or ceiling tile. Everything else just floats to the tops and gets skimmed off.

my indoor range scrap is very clean in that it is lead and jackets...very little debris.

i get aprox 60-70% lead ...nice soft lead.

the good news is that i can sell the jacket scrap...but only as "range scrap"....not as copper..

beats the hell out of the yield i got from berm mining, unless you count the toxic black gravel i got for the drive.

still, it calls me back. time for another minining expedition i think.
