I think my glasses need changing. I usually use the lollipop type insert for target shooting but the past couple times at the range I have a difficult time getting the same blank space around the circumference of the black bullseye. Sort of fuzzy and not distinct. Too much space left and you get a shot too far left. Too much above the bull and you're high. I tried the small post insert and lost it in the black bull. Then, I tried the cross hairs and they got lost as well.

Actually, I don't have the lollipop inserts but a version in that it's cross hairs with the circle in the middle but it's the same sight picture as the lollipop. The other insert that's similar is too small so the one I'm using is about right but it's not as sharp as before. You can see all around the black bull-just not contrasty enough to distinguish the spacing.

This is typical of the groups I was getting a month back.

Now, they look more like this...same bullet, same load.

Might be partly that you could try a target with different colors for better contrast.

Sometimes a thicker ring helps. At times I've put two inserts into my sights, one slightly smaller than the other to thicken up the ring. I got the idea from Mike Venturino.

These are the standard 5 3/4" bullseye targets, MR-31 or now I use the MR-31C Centers. I don't know if they make any that's more contrasty.

Shooting paper targets the lollipop is about as good as it gets. You might want to order a card for your front sight from Ron Snover. When the light gets low a bigger front aperature makes a world of difference over brighter days and smaller aperatures.
However looking at the difference in the two targets , that bottom one looks to me like you've got something going on with fouling control, inconsistent grip or cheek weld, or possibly even wind and mirage.

I only have another with the circle/cross hair type but I found it's too small to see any white outside of the bullseye. If it were larger I'd give that a try.

You could have a point, Don but I'm inclined to want to think it's my vision. I have a new pair coming soon so maybe that will help. I had trouble with my scope sighted 270 recently as well.

I failed to mention this is a Browning 1885 BPCR 45-70 and I don't know what other inserts would fit. Take that back. I believe Lee Shaver has some that will work with this front sight.

If Shaver's inserts will fit your Browning globe sight, then inserts for the Lyman 17 will also fit.
Here is a Lyman set with four lollypops and a short post for a six o' clock hold.

Yep, and not a bad price-thanks. I got a call to pick up my new glasses a few hours ago and now I know what the problem was...my old glasses. What a difference it made in the clarity of anything I looked at compared to the other ones. If it's not freezing tomorrow I'm back to the range to verify.

Yes glasses make a ton of difference. That's why I keep one pair, just for shooting. That way even tho they are the same rx as my everyday glasses, I'm not peering thru all the scratches etc that seem to collect on a pair worn daily.

You can also order custom made inserts from Distant Thunder, not cheap by any means, but then true quality seldom is cheap.

It had been a good five years since I had the changed and between the tri-focal, UV protection and scratch resistant lens plus new frames I had to cough up nearly $400. For the clarity I now can see it was almost worth it.

Between the hair like scratches on y old pair and the fact I needed new lens no wonder I couldn't' see the target/insert that well.
