Being new to casting, I have the "privilege" To pay for my lead! I found a local shop that will sell me a bucket of ww for $75. It is a metal bucket, larger than a 5 gallon. They still use almost all lead, and do a pretty good job sorting out the steel and zinc. Anyway, after sorting and smelting, I ended up with 144lbs of clean ingots. I was pretty happy with that kind of yield so I went and purchased 2 more buckets! I figured for as little as I shoot, 400lbs should last a while! Plus, I am looking at building a bullet trap for my private range. If I do that, I should have enough for my lifetime!:bigsmyl2:

At 52 cents a pound after smelt that is a pretty good price in my area. I usually pay 35 cents a pound from the tire shops but there is always a lot of steel and zinc in the buckets too. good haul.

That 400 lbs will be gone before you know it.

$.52 per cleaned pound isn't bad. I pay $.50 per pound of semi clean wheel weights, not much zinc..more valve stems.
The rubber from the valve stem swells up like a black marsh-mellow and are easily removed.
i'm usually careful to look for live .22lr rounds..the last lot of WW had 2 smal digital tirepresher gauges in them i removed and through them out.
One of the large hearing aid batteries must have been removed and placed in the bucket. it went off like a pipebomb.. i couldn't believe i didn't get burned, so be carefull.

MG is right. Keep going after that stash...it is a good price. You never know when it will run out.

400 lbs. is a lot of lead..... until you have shot off 300 lbs. of it. Then not so much. Really sounds like a good deal. I to pay around 35 cents per lb. for WW's and they are generally pretty decent ratio of lead to zinc/steel but not able to land larger quantities, 40 - 100 lbs. every month or so.
