Hi Everyone,

There is no current reloading data on Winchester Super Target powder, it sets right beside Green Dot on the burn chart and very bulky like Green Dot and Bullseye and is similar in burn rate. Its much faster that WW231/HP38.

I want to use it as Green Dot replacement in 800-950 fps range for 250gr .44 mag target rounds. Obivously WST is a very fast powder, so its just as suitable as Red Dot , Green Dot or Bullseye in big cases with light charges.

Based on .45 ACP data and 10mm WST load data, it appears that 6 to 6.5 grains of WST should be in the 800-900 fps range in .44 mag brass.

Does anyone have any load data on this combo...... Also any 45 Long Colt WST load data would work for me to.

thanks

I have used WST on a weight for weight substitution for Bullseye in .45 ACP, .45 Colt and .44 Magnum with stndard weight bullets for the caliber. 4.8 grains with 200-grain H&G68 in. 45 ACP, 7 grains with 250 LFN in. 45 Colt and 10 grains with 240 SWC in .44 Magnum. Reduce 10% to start.

Since you are not after max loads only loads in the 800 to 900 fps range .WST should work !

For my go to loads for many decades with the 44 mag with the same velocties you are looking for but using from 6.0 to 7.0 gr of Bullseye or Tightgroup powder.
Im thinking the same powder charges will work for the 45 LC.

Thanks guys...I'll start at 6.0 gr of WST and then 6.5 grs and run those over the chrony and see where I'm at. Honestly with a 255g K-SWC seated long at 1.690 OAL, I really doubt it will even break the 900 fps mark out of 6 inch M29.

Please get back with your results, that's one powder I can find locally. Interested in using it in 44Mag.

The load data provided below is for informational purposes only and your use of this data is at your own risk.

Okay guys back from the chronograph day at the range, I ran 500 rounds across the chronograph working up new "to me" loads for my 10, 41, and 44 for my 629 and my Henry.

I settled for 7.0 grains of WST(Winchester Super Target) a fast powder small flake powder close to GreenDot on the burn chart(but meters oh so much better that the Dots)

++++++++++.44 revolver+++++For my "target"load in my 629 I was looking for a 900ish fps load to replace my current GreenDot load of 6.8 grains(I just dont like dealing with the large flakes any longer)

I settled for a 7.0 grains of WST with a 255 K-SWC seated at 1.690 gave me 912 fps, SD of 12.95 and ES of 34.75.This ones a keeper for my revolvers. With a 240 LRN-FP seated at 1.590I got 930 fps.

I also loaded down to 16.2 grains of Accurate Arms No 9, in my 629 with 255 KSWC I got 1180 fps, which is right at a real "full power"load for the .44.I got an SD 20 of anES of 65, so there was a bit of velocity spread since this is a 'lighter"#9 loading.(this load is really from my Henry rifle)

++++.44 Henry++++++

The same 7.0 grains of WST gave 1091 fps, 12.64 SD, ES 56 in the rifle, load was nice shooting good for my low power load.

The 16.2 grs of AA #9 was the stand out, with my 240 gr LRN-fp seated to 1.590 it ran 1442 fps, SD of 45,ES 154. Ugly SD with this load..... but seemed to cure an issue I've been chasing with the Henry, my .431 sized loads where leading just the first 1 to 1.5 inches in front of the chamber. Well with this power level.....guess what no leading. Clearly a stout load at 1100 ft/lbs of energy. But out of the 9lb Henry it was easy load to shoot.

I think the load I'll stick with for the Henry is gonna be 9.4 grs of SR 4756(unfortunate its going away soon). It gave me 1193 fps, SD of 16 ESof 51 at 750 ft/lbs of energy. Again no leading issues at this power level.

I think with my new brass .433 LRNFP 240 grain 3 cavity Accurate mold I ordered, sized down to .432 with about 1250 fps in the Henry I think she will be fine and leading issue should be put to rest.I'll just will have work on confirming the load is accurate.

My alloy is only about 13-14 BHN so I was pleased at how it held up at 1200 and even 1400 fps
