saw this one on MSN this morning it shows a mild steel "case/barrel liner":veryconfu with a roundball inside:roll::castmine:

I had to laugh how they described this as a new breakthrough "bullet design" which would make 3-D printed guns more practical

So the case is strong enough to hold the pressure since the
gun will not. Of course, where does one buy these special
cartridges? One presumes that the point of a printed plastic
gun is that it avoids limitations by the authorities. If the gun
won't take std ammo how will it be useful?

Stupid, as usual.

These idiots can't imagine how easy it is to make a single shot
gun out of simple stuff available at any good hardware store.
Printing a single shot plastic gun isn't really any sort of a
greater availability of uncontrolled weapons than have been
around for many decades. It was fairly common to make a
.22 pistol from a car antenna in the 50s. People will innovate.

3D is pretty cool if you can get ammunition. But the startup cost for making zip guns is pretty near zero.

I almost put a link up to that one yesterday. Once I saw the plastic rifling printed into the 'barrel' and the usual printed gun funky ergonomics, I decided it was about as bad as last years.

It won't replace my Sig Sauer but I think it's great that this technology is being developed. Anything that can be done to keep information and production harder to regulate is a step in the right direction. Down the road some more appealing designs will emerge but this is a good step.
