I'm trying to source some new brass to make some 8mm06ai from, I intend to use top quality brass from the start. I can get hornady 30-06 for. $36per 50. Norma 30-06 $28per 25 Norma 338-06$42per. 25. Or possibly 280AI for $50. Can I even use the 280 brass? What would be my best option? ( I do know I could just use cheap 06 brass but I don't want to add possible headaches or troubles ). I also don't shoot much and rarely loose a piece of brass

Lapua always comes up as top of the line brass.

What headaches or troubles? Now your making me feel as though I use inferior (Remington) brass. giggle giggle
Don't tell Winchester, Remington or Federal that their brass is not top quality, it will hurt their feelings.

Yeah, and I've never had any problems with PPU, either.

the trouble with using .280 Rem. AI (Nosler I am guessing ) it the fact that the .280 Rem have the shoulder farther forward to prevent it from being chambered in a .270 Win. rifle so this is a no go. get good 30-06 or 35 Whelen brass, blowing the shoulders out to AI will happen the first time it is fired.
I do load .338-06 and my best results for brass life is .35 Whelen brass made by W-W super (Win) it is just a run through the sizer die.
Being an 8mm neck the shoulder is not going to move much when you go to blow it to AI.

An 8mm-06 AI would benefit from using brass with the shoulder forward. That way you can size to fit the chamber in the first place.

Otherwise you do not really need the world's best brass if you are going to stretch it when you fire form it.
Just buy a large quantity of USGI 30-06. Expand the necks to .35 then neck back down to 8mm.

Commercial 30-06 brass works absolutely great. Trust me I have reloaded and shot plenty to make cases for my 8mm-06 AI.
Parent round (30-06) head spaces on the datum line of the shoulder, as Ackley intended. Case is perfectly fire formed first shot.
Not rocket science.
What is so difficult about this procedure????????????
