Not in spectacular condition, but excellent for its age. Printed 1955. Have never read it, so looking forward to starting this one.

I picked up a copy about 2 months ago and have really enjoyed reading through the history portion.

Keep in mind the era it was written in, and the age of the writer...keeps the book in perspective and the descriptions all the more amazing.

Interesting book and he and his friends were largely inventing things that we either have forgotten
or by now taken for for granted as "common knowledge". I have always found his opinions on
revolver ammo to closely match what I have found when I replicate his loads and methods.

I've never seen the 1st edition, but bought his 2nd edition which he released after the 44 Mag came out and I found it to be very informative. One thing about old Elmer, he wasn't shy about letting you know just what he thought. You might also enjoy Hell, I Was There for more of his personal stories. You'll see what shaped a lot of his attitudes and thought processes.

A great read!

In those days, it was strictly understood: if a man chose to follow the advice of a writer, the fellow took all responsibility for doing it right! Today, w/ liability suite law, no writer would dare to advocate the things Keith did.

About 1988 or 1989, I called the publisher, they still had a few copies of the last printing of the updated version (1961?). @ the time, the price was more then I could afford. Then in 1991, R&R books did a quality, hardcover, US produced, reprint of the updated version. As I recall, it cost me about $26.00 delivered.

I may look for a later Edition as well, just to say I have it, but for now I am happy with my find.

After reading this post I went to Amazon and bought a hard back copy printed by wolf publishing in 2011 for $39 shipped. They have 7 copies left. Also available in paperback and PDF.

All this sixgun talk makes me wish I would have bought more USFA single actions while they were still being produced. I'm sure they're pretty pricey by now. Workmanship.......

I have one just like that... the paper cover is still on it, but it is well worn. It sure is a good read!
