Ok guys, i have a bunch of nice does that keep showing up right behind my house lately. I am putting up a makeshift blind in the brush and am planning to use my new model blackhawk. The boolit im planning to use is the lee .358-158rf. This slug is about 10bhn and powdercoated with a finished weight if 165gr. Im gonna use a stiff load of 2400 and distance will be close....about 30 feet lol. Am i right in thinking this soft boolit will flatten a bit at around 1350fps or so? I just want a clean kill, i can shoot the pistola very well and im sure of my ability to put em where they need to go. I just dont want to have to track her across the county. Thx guys

You put it through the lungs and you will have a dead deer.

Agreed. That boolit at that range with good placement will make for a very dead deer.

I took a spike buck with one of these 2-3 years ago now at 45yds out of my 4" Security Six. The load was 7.0grs Unique pushing an ACWW Lee 158RNFP like you're using, and the deer didn't make it ten feet. I haven't chronographed the load, but I'm absolutely sure that yours has probably about 200fps more than mine did, if not more, and mine expanded to .42", but penetrated almost the full length of the deer. The shot was when the buck was facing me, and hit just below the V, but didn't stop til it hit the pelvis. Didn't leave much of a mark on the pelvis though, so it must have run out of steam by then, but I was just impressed that it actually went that deep. That bullet will do just fine.

a 357 will probably bounce off and put your eye out :veryconfu
A friend of mine hit one 6 times on the run before it dropped but it was about 15 feet from where he hit it with the first shot.
Good luck with your hunt.

Are we a bit biased swede??? Lol. Well as soon as i get a mold for my 30-30, im going to work up some loads for that . Probably will be next hunting season before that happens but it gives me something to work towards. Theres something about shooting a deer within 100ft of your back door that appeals to me, go figure.

if you shoot that deer facing you, it will be found in the rear ham or it will exit easily.
Go get some!
