The cat relieved itself in an ammo can with 2 500 rd bricks of 22. I discovered this the next day and now have 1000 rds of non firing 22. I didn't have any hope of salvaging the ammo, but let it dry out. I took a random handful and tried firing them. No good. So now I'm pulling all the heads. I'm really po'd. And the powder is fine. I guess the priming compound is what was affected. Frigging critters.

How'd the cat get the can open?

LOL,.. My fault. I left the lid open when I took a few boxes to the range the day before. Little !@#$% was probably waiting for the chance.

Speed bumps and target practice. ;-)

My solution would be to put the cat in the ammo can and see if the cat could get it open from the inside.

You let a cat into your house.

The cat still lives? If I had a relative pee in a box inside my house we'd be fueding if there was ammo in said box, we would see if it still fires.

If the powder is still dry how is it the priming compound would be wet? I know the cat waterd it all down, but I have had 22's that were wet and never even botherd the powder. Moost 22's seal up pretty tight. Just wondering thoughts.

Your cat must be a liberal!

My cat is a conservative. He guards my ammo stash :)

The cat must have one big bladder to ruin two bricks of ammo. I don't even think I could do that after six beers.

It's a tiny cat, cute as a button. Little pisser seems to have it in for me though.

Can't see why your ammo is ruined. My cat took a dump in my Lyman tumbler ONCE. Guess walnut shells make better litter.

I suppose for a member in need, I would loan you one shell to cure your problem, but don't miss, they ain't exactly growing on trees lately. lol

I too cant see how the powder is dry and priming compound is wet. I would be checking the rifle after a good clean and oil as I fear that is the problem. Be a shame to pull all the pills and find it was a faulty firing pin or dirty breech face. Just a thought.

Have you considered making a deal with your wife that if her cat keeps messing with your ammo, you will see how well it fits in her crockpot? I would recommend ducking and then a brisk retreat out of her sight shortly after though.

The only problem with using cats for target practice is that they just don't last long enough! Fried up right though they taste just like chicken.

If the powder is dry that cat did nothing to the ammo there is something else wrong. I had a box drop in some water for a day before I found them, took each and dried them and fired everyone.
My cat would rather sleep on anything then pee on it, he knows what a litter box is for and uses it regularly.

One shot of cat pee did in two bricks of .22 LR in 24 hours? Sorry, but I've run .22s through the washing machine and they still fired. I think you have a different problem.

Dad: "Son, what sound does a dog make?"
Son: "Woof Woof, daddy."
Dad: "Good job son. What sound does a cat make?"
Son: "Thud Thud, daddy"
Dad: "Exactly right son."

My cat is a sweet heart that I took in as a kitten Winter of 2012. She is my reloading buddy and will guard as well. Better than I can say for my wife's dang ankle biters that love to mark my gun cases.

I've always been amazed how much variety there is in good and bad dogs, cats, and people. Of the three, I'll trust the dog first every time.

I pulled them all. I hope I didn't miss anything. I tried a few different batches, and they wouldn't fire. I would get firing pin marks on them. I guess if I missed something then I have some expensive lead to use.

I really don't see how peeing on 1000 rnds could've ruined them all. My cat pee'd in a plastic box full of old and odd ammo and he must've done it for a couple days, there was almost 1/4" of pee in the bottom! (boy did that stink!) I dumped it all out in the drive and rinsed them with the hose then with nothing to lose washed them with dish soap and rinsed again. After drying about half still fired.

Urine, urea, uric acid, ammonia... good stuff for powder and primers, not.

That makes sense if it's direct contact but it has to get past the crimp and the bullet lube on every single round. That's an impossibility, unless there were several cats having a pissing match.

Ammonia proximity can ruin your primers and powder. It's just the permeating fumes. Keep cleaning supplies far away from reloading supplies.
