Thought I would come out of my Hollywood closet and show what "Most" of the Hollywood presses produced look like next to each other and in order of production.. ( at least as far as I can determine)

Missing is the last variations of the Senior turret, progressive's, auto's & now the Tall 20mm senior.

Note .. All the top 16 presses are bolted down and in use, set up for 30 calibers with Hollywood dies. The rest are for displaying Hollywood tooling and other period pieces.

Any new info or suggested corrections welcomed.

I will add to the collection a Hollywood that some scoundrel sniper beat me out of on fleabay two years ago. It is a Universal with a brass Hollywood name tag over the center handle hole. This could possibly be the first Hollywood. Or maybe it is not, just a late Universal.

Thanks Guys;

These Hollywoods are set up for display and use if one is so inclined. I do most of my loading/reloading tasks in my cave with other Presses and tooling. I do use an almost new condition HW single senior and a 2nd model 1935 universal 3 holer on one of my benches for odd loading chores.

LUBEDUDE; Willing to trade Finger for Finger as your HW collection is just as impressive. I would be all over your presses like a blind man with a Bim-Bo.

Beroen; Must be presses as I have been shooting the same .06 now for 50 years.

Ken; Close, but no Cigar. My first press has no Hollywood tags or markings, and it is not a patented 1935 Universal. It is a Selmar Siebert Universal made in the early 1930's. No hole for handle or handle as they did not show up until siebert redesigned it as his Patented 1935 model.

Wow Now that I have seen this why did they go out of business?
do you have more money and time into your press collection or guns I have to ask.

Sadly, the Shop Fire they had in September or October 2013 left them with no currently usable Shop (Red Tagged by the Building and Safety Inspector), no Power (It was CUT by Dept. of water And Power at the request of the Fire Department) and no access to start Clean up until they got a permit, which took about three weeks, so the stock which was stored in old Bread pans was rusted by the time they could gain access.

The Roof colapsed onto the tops of the machine tools venting the heat away from most of them, but it took a few months to get all the burned/melted roofing and wood residue out of the way, then they found the rusted Stock and Inventory. At taht point, clearing the space became necessary and all the Tools and machinery were sold to a Dealer and removed, except one 12 inch by 57 inch Craftsman Commercial Lathe I bought and am slowly restoring to usable condition, it is now about 70 percent disassembled and about 25 percent cleaned and primed parts waiting for replacements and reassembly.

The Property they Occupy is 'on the Market' for Sale as his Wife and Daughter want to sue the money from the sale to buy a Home, they are living in a rental 'condo' at the moment.

Joe is still putting together cleaned up parts into a few remaining Presses and Dies so If you need something, please call him to check on what is available.
There is now a Temporary Power Drop on site so he can use hand tools and small power tools on site now. He is there most days of the Week, puttering and caring for their two dogs.

Best Regards,
Chev. William

HGS, Sorry for throwing that 20mm senior into the loop!!! Question on the powder drops. Are all of plastic tubes identical in diameter? I have some of the later powder measures that have 2 different diameters.

Tracvision;

I measured all of my hollywood powder measure's and found that the second model tubes measures at 1.95" and the rest all come out at 2.00".

You might check with Lubedude as he posted pictures of his HW auto seniors powder measures which are different then the powder measures that I have.

This bit came from Hollywood Gun SHop. They obviously had more than one size. This is less than two inches. I'll get an accurate size next stop at the shop. Two of the measures are wrinkle coated, two are not, the third is still wrapped in the original waxed paper for storage. Its been that way for many decades.

Oh, wow. That's the first I heard of the fire. Years ago, I need a shell holder for my Senior Turret. I gave Joe a call, and he sent me the shell holder and even a user manual for my press. To think all that history to go up in smoke. My heart goes out to him and his family

HGS,

What a great treat to find when I logged in tonight!! I'm mildly annoyed with Lubedude for not letting me know about this thread but what a great surprise. Here I thought only he and I had it this bad!

I love how you have your Super Turret in the middle. It's nice to see another Super Turret owner having one one display. I think you're number 5 or 6 that we know of now.

i would love to talk to you about documentation, variations, etc. I'll send you a PM when i get off mobile.

again I can't find words for how great a thing this was to see tonight. It's really a spectacular collection. I think Lubedude and I combined might come close but you're still in the lead.

Thanks from another Holywood collector.

That has to be the most impressive collection of Hollywood equipment I've seen......and beautifully displayed too. I take it you're either not married, or....?

Seriously, I love seeing shooters and reloaders who take pride in their craft. From all of who respect the "old iron", thank you for posting.

Beeser, Tracvision is Hollywood. He has purchased the remaining press inventory. No new Hollywood Gun Shop presses have been made in many years. Tracvision has enough parts to assemble some presses that he has been selling on eBay.

He and I have worked out the Hollywood time line, though some recently found information requires an update.

Was the Hollywood Gun shop actually located in Pasadena? It seems that I would there and look around in the late 1950s.

Tracvision can probably answer this with more certainty (and accuracy) than I, but if memory serves, they were in or near Sun Valley which is a suburb that is North of and actually separated from Hollywood by Burbank in Eastern San Fernando Valley.

Wow, to that collection. Found this thread while looking for info on Hollywood as I just acquired a 12g auto press in a reloading stuff buy. Have been using a Hornady 366 for years. Should I switch or sell? Looks very complete but I'm not familiar with it's operation. Load a lot of shotshells and this looks pretty heavy duty. Have any idea on value? Have not been able to find any shotshell presses anywhere online.

Also got a Star in 45 and 38, a Texan something, a beautiful Ohaus beam scale in a factory wooden box, and other stuff. Was primarily after the reload components but it had to be a package deal so I went for it. All the stuff seems to have been acquired in the 70's.

HGS

Chuckdolf;

Congraulations on the reloading presses you found, there should be a lot of people here who know the values of your presses.

About the Hollywood Shotgun Auto you inquired about, there is only one person I know of on this board who claims to have used one in this life, (Reloader Fred) he might be able to help you about using it. With Hollywood Gun Shop Auto's, my experiance is that you will have to have several friends around to help you with feeding it components. As far as value, it is what the market will bear. If you want High Dollar, list it on E-bay and hold on to your key board as It could bring a thousand or two in Good complete usuable shape. Good luck with it either way, if possible, post a few pictures so we all can enjoy another Hollywood Press that survived.

John Wayne you have a nice looking press there. Even better you have an adapter for snap in shellholders, changing the original H type shellholders is awkward and can stress your patience. You did good. It's quirky design, but it works and looks good setup on your bench ready to go to work.

Yes, the second generation shotgun die set was made for the Sr T though it can be used on any of the Turrets. 12 and 20 are fairly common. 10, 16, and 410 are very hard to find.

Those hard to find sizes are a little bit easier to find in the first generation dies, which can used on any of the turrets and single stages with proper attachments, but not by much.

Since Tapatalk foo barred their photo uploading process I can’t post pics to show the difference.

The hoppers are threaded, but the lids are not. The first and second generation hoppers had solid aluminum lids. About 10 years ago there was a guy on ebay making some for $20-25 each for a very short time. Add shipping and I guess it made the price too high.

The third generation PM did not have threaded hoppers and came with a heavy steel lid which had an o-ring.

Just picked up a cast iron Hollywood Senior and was wondering if there is any way to find the vintage.It says Mfg. Hollywood Gun shop on one side and Hollywood Loading Tools on the other. Cleaned up very nice, lubed it and am using it. What a beast. Also was fortunate enought to get a Dunbar. Has dunbar stamped on the main operating rod. Another beast. Cleaned up real nice also. I like to leave them in as original condition as possible with all the little nicks and missing paint, so as to think about those that had them before me and what they did with them. For the age they are in excellant shape.

The first Hollywood Senior was patented In May of 1951. Several versions came later, all fine machines. I am aware of a Hollywood History book in the works but a year or so out.
