Gentlemen,

While digging though a box of reloading goodies, I came accross this. I ASSUME it is an extended shellholder of some sort. I'd like to know what type of press it fits. I tried it in my RCBS press and it's too big. Pictures are below, sorry for the quality, had to use a cell phone camera.

It is marked 6 on the top.

It fits 38 special/357 mag case size.

It is .880" tall.

The top (knurled) diameter is 1.015".

The center diameter is .485".

The bottom diameter, where it would fit into a press ram, is .748".

I'm sure someone will recogonize it.

Thanks for any help.

Hey SingleShot,

That looks like a shell holder that may have been used on one of the old Herters presses.

Best wishes,

Indeed so - that is a shellholder for a Herters super Model 3 -- #6 for 38spl head size cases.
I am looking at the exact same thing as I write --
It is held in the ram by a set screw dogging the middle diameter and load is taken by the set screw when withdrawing case from die.

They are generally interchangeble with lachmiller press holders but not lachmiller primer tool holders. The center hole on lach primer holders is larger. Also some numbers may not be the same. Herters are plated, lachmillers are not.

Thanks gentlemen for the confirmation, I suspected Herters.
