What do you mean "I can`t get brass for"? What caliber is it? Someone here on the site must have some of what you need.Robert

There is always a good reason! You just have to make it up before the better half finds out :)

I have never bought brass for mine but Factory ammo is easy to find at relatively inexpensive prices.
I paid around 48 cents for factory JHPs. They would cost you around 25 cents to reload.
That makes the brass cost around 23 cents. Starline brass is 28 cents and you will have to wait forever for it.

Actually it was just a month or two ago they ran 327 Federal Magnum brass at Starline. If you didn't get in on that run I'd say you have a wait ahead of you.

FYI last time I looked Freedom Arms (you know, the ones with the expensive revolvers) was selling primed 327FM brass.

Because there was no good reason to buy this last night.

Other than it's a fine looking gun.

As far as brass goes, I'm sure I could find some if I posted a WTB. I just prefer to buy new brass anymore. While it uses pistol brass which I've never had an issue buying used. A bunch of bad transactions w/ used rifle brass has soured me to the used brass market.

Care to elaborate?

That one is on my list. Unfortunately it's not a short list :)

I picked up my 5.5" Single 7 yesterday, took it out today, minor problem with function of loading but it sure does shoot purty. Was using AE 85 gr. Nice gun, just the right size for the cartridge. I'd like it to be a 6 shot but I'll still love it as an "oddball7"!!! I think it will probably shoot almost as good as my Charter Arms Target Patriot; especially when I get it broke to my cast hand loads.

I'm so jealous. I saw brass at Midway not long ago and almost picked up 500 even before finding the revlover anywhere. I expected the gun to be in short supply so I held back.
Man that's a good looking piece,,, I'm going to have to start searching in earnest in order to scratch this itch

I did that with .38-55 and .44 Special.

Worked both times.

If anyone has checked chamber mouth dimensions in these Single 7's I'd be interested in that information.
thanks, Joe

I did not have pin gauges but: A Hornady .312 drops thru, my cast .314 can be pushed thru. Did not slug the bore.

Guesser, jrayborn -
thank you for that information, it sounds like I better start calling around and picking one of these up.

Needing a hole in the head for a Ruger? Oh, never! Those are some nice revolvers.

Can you elaborate on the loading issue? I had a small issue loading mine too, and want to know if it is normal or not.

For the others out there, all of the throats are a tight .314 using my pin gauges. The barrel slugged at .3113, several different time. No tight spots in the bore, which I was pleased with.

Mine had a hard time with lining up to load when the cylinder locked too, I have opened up the gate just a bit and things are much better. I am still working with the sights but may switch to a fiber optic front at some point.

You guys are describing the same issues with loading that I had. I think the 7 instead of 6 part of the equation is the cause, but I'm not an expert.

My 5.5 is going back to Ruger in the morning, call ticket has been issued. I talked to my UPS man friday. Yes, loading the chamber is a pain, it is the "7" feature that makes that a problem; would be better with a 6 chamber cylinder. The reason mine is going back is because the loading gate moves fwd twd the cylinder when opened and the round in the chamber can't pass the loading gate pivot. I can push the gate to the rear, not close it, just push the pivot back into the frame and then go on loading the cylinder. The gate is not seated in the frame. I don't know what is used as a retainer. Anyway, my experience with Ruger on thursday and friday last was very pleasant.

If you want them, get them now, while they are on GB or your LGS can get them from the wholesaler. If someone waits until Ruger finishes the run, then the price goes up fast! They list every model in their catalog. But they set up, run so many pieces, then change the line. Once the guns from that run are sold, they get scarce fast and the price for the few still in the pipeline go up fast! I KNOW! *blush*

However, Dame Fortune has occasionally smiled on this most unworthy one. I got the last Remington 547-T Buds had. :) Then there was that deal on the S&W 625 MountainGun :) also the S&W 28 was a nice coup. I got the very first Taurus PT1911 and the first Ruger SP101 .22 in town also.

They're on Gunbroker. Even the 7.5" version. I'm tempted to buy all three "just because"

Most Ruger single actions have the same loading issues, you'll get used to it. Somewhat of a minor problem IMO GP

Most Rugers do not have the same issue loading.
I have four others currently and have owned four or five others previously. Their six shooters are much more forgiving. It is because somebody good at math but bad at machine work decided to squeeze 7 cases into a 6 shot frame without moving the loading gate. Granted it is more of a nuisance than a problem but it is still a blemish on an otherwise great gun. It will become less of a problem once I get time this weekend to tear the gun apart and stone out enough metal for the cases to clear the frame.

I've never dealt with them, but these folks supposedly have the brass you want. lohmanarms.com
