I have a Lyman mould that casts 176g. plane base bullets (using wheel weights). I would like to shoot it in both a 30-30 and 30-06. A load that shoots about 1200 to 1400 fps would be good for me, since it is not a gas checked bullet.

Does anyone have a pet load using Unique or 2400 for this combination?

10 gr up to a max of 14 for both cases should do what you wand in fine fashion.

I have been playing with the old 30-30 for a few years now, and have found 10 grains Unique to be about max. An older Lyman manual does list this as max for that powder. Same Lee 170 grainer in a .308 will require about 12 grains Unique for same 1500 fps velocity. Same goes for the 7.62X54R using a Lee C312-185-RN. Can't say about the '06 as I have not fooled with it yet. Check in with RandyRat, I believe he is shooting a 170 grain Lee with 6 grains Unique and no gas check. He loves it.
10 grains of Red Dot is another option, with slightly higher [50 fps] velocity and maybe a little better accuracy. My old Marlin 336 is now my squirrel gun using the reduced load.
Just be sure to watch the manual. Those fast pistol powders raise pressures quickly!

8 gr Unique. And that will work in about 90% of cartridges out there.

The Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook lists a 173 grain GC boolit in a 30-30 with 7-10.4 grains of Unique for 1203-1519fps. I’ve been using 8 grains under a 150-grain 13bnh GC boolit for around 1300fps as my plinking load in that cartridge with good results. I use Reloader 7 for the hotter loads with a gas check.

I prefer Bullseye for such loads as it is not position sensitive from most shooting positions and ignition is more consistant. Start with 5.5 gr and work up to 7.5 gr in each cartridge. You will find a load there that is quite accurate in the velocity range you are seeking. However, Unique many times works also,

I'm currently using 7.1grs of Bullseye with the Lee 113gr "soup can" and Fed. LP primers for my little boys 30/30 Handi rifle. It shoots 0.5" groups or better at 50yds and has a MV of about 1500fps, which equates to 565lbs of KE. Not too shaby. We haven't tried 100yds yet, but I think it might be just over MOA. Later.

Using a 31041 (310410 ) w/ size to .309 and 26, IMR 3031.works in my old '94
311 299 w/ 17 gr 2400 works great in my Springfield '03 @ 200 yds MV +/- 1750.
