I was curious as to the difference in penetration and expansion between the hollow point and solid versions of the MP-433-300 outta my Marlin 444XLR at 2206 fps. I set a box at 90 yards that contained stacked dry phone books that were held in place by a steel plate. The hollow point went thru 9 inches of phone books, created one heckuva "wound channel" and ended up weighing 154.5g. It's starting weight outta ww+1% and heat treated to Bhn 22 was 295g. The solid, also heat treated to Bhn 22 and weighing 310g, went thru 19 inches of phone books and came to rest right under the steel plate. It ended up weighing 263.7 grains and held together well.

That is some punch! I used soaked phone books and my .44 mag with my 330 gr made 34".

Wow, didn't thing the HP would penetrate as far but didn't think the difference would be that much!

You got me this king with your experiment, I know its dangerous and all but I got to thinking, so on my last range trip, yesterday afternoon real quick.before I got in the tree stand fer the evening I did some quasi scientific tinking. Had some 10 inch diameter green beech wood logs and shot them with my encore 209x50. A 330 grain buffalo jword hollow point against my home rolled Lee real 320 ish . bother with 90 grains pyrodex and same gun. Both went through one only the Lee went through both with the factory made one just on the inside of log #2 horribly deformed, not so much a mushroom as it came apart I haven't weighed it yet, couldn't find d a Lee real but the exit hole was much bigger on the back of log #2 than the jhp made on the back of log#1. So just over ten inches for the jhp and more than 20 inches for the soft Lee real.
