To rinse the boolits in acetone before you ES PC them? I usually do this step, but I'm out of acetone.
Big deal?, or just skip this step?
Thanks guys.

I only rinse in acetone to remove sizing lube.
If you cast and then PC no need to degrease.

I'm with fastfire. Or if you know of any other way they got oily or greasy.

I will second fastfires answer.. if no oils or grease (which should not be on fresh cast bullets) you are good to coat

That's good to know. I was wondering if that could have been part of my coverage problem.

I just ran them through a Lee push through sizer, dry, so I guess I'll spray them now. Thank you.

Spray away, and post pics! No acetone needed.

A lot of fellers here don't clean their bullets with a solvent pre-coating. But, I like to have everything on my side to put a good coat on my bullets, so I usually clean them in some sort of solvent (mineral spirits, alcohol, lacquer thinner, brake clean, etc.). I've noticed, and this in just my experience in wet, rainy Oregon, that my DT bullets come out a bit better when I either use brake clean or another non-residue solvent. But for spraying, as long as there ain't no visible oil/lube on the surface, most spray coatings come out good...

I hear ya. A little wet out today. Not to bad though. I've got my pork shoulder in the crock pot and mustard & vinegar based sauce on the stove. Gonna have pulled pork sandwiches for the Duck game!

Now that the food is taken care of, I should go PC those 44 boolits. I'll post a pic later when they are done.

I cast, coat, bake and then size.

A lot of the pistol bullets I install cola can gas checks on plain base bullets.

With th powder coat and the cola can gas check there is zero lead in the barrel after several hundred rounds fired.

The sizing before coating is not required if the cast bullet are close to size.

Black Cherry boolits! Nice!!!! :drinks:

I don't know why those wouldn't shoot great. Any flashing should come right off in the sizer.

Beagle. The flashing did come right off when pushed through the Lee sizer. Some of them lost a little of the PC off the bottom driving band(base). Should be just fine I think.

I have shot them when they lost a little like that, with no ill effect. If you wanna get fancier later, you can try elevating them just a bit when you spray them (nuts, small washers, or anything under the foil), and that'll let the excess powder fall away and also flow away as they bake and it'll reduce the flashing even more. Those are nice! I'm gonna steal the black cherry idea from ya! :)

I've read that before. Just too lazy to make up some trays yet!

It takes more time but if you spray then move them to a clean AF tray you will get very little flash but can cook more bullets at a time just letting u know.

I have never rinsed with Acetone or anything else. I also have not sized before coating. I size only after coating and have never compromised the coating when removing flashing. You may have picked up a bit of lube residue left on the die. Just my thought.

I only size before coating whenI am going to let the boolits sit around for more than a few days beore coating OR if my mold drops more than .002 larger than the finished size I am looking for.
