You can buy pewter here for about $10 a pound carried to your door.

Users jsizemore and konsole have ads in the Swappin and Sellin section now. I sell pretty regularly too, but right now the arthritis has been keeping me from doing any work with my hands. I have lots of raw items, but nothing in ingots.

A little goes a long way unless your casting binary pb/sn for BP cartridge or the like. 4# would give you something like 2% tin in a couple 250 pounds of WW's.

You can check the thrift store / flea market / garage sales for pewter item yourself. Worth reading the thread on pewter hallmarks if you decide to start keeping an eye out for used pewter. I have about 3.5 lbs. of items for about $10 invested but that is probably 5-6 months of checking around.

Don't ignore body shop solder bars or Bell seam solder bars if you come across any at the local scrap yard. Worst I have ever found was 10% and most was up around 30-40% tin.

Or purchase from members that have done the work of locating pewter for you. 1# would cover a lot of casting for $10.

Pewter is the way!!!! I got my COWW and Pure weighed out and ready for an early a.m. casting session. And the centerpiece is a 5 oz pewter cup. :-D

If i understand the mixing ratio's... 2% into 100 pounds would be 2 pounds per 100 pound mix. Each mix I do is 50 pound mix, so 1 pound of tin in a 50 pound batch would set me just at 2%.

Yes. It doesn't take much.
