Have used the Lyman and now using the RCBS 200-FN. I am trying a rifle that is new to me, a well-kept Marlin RC pre-MG. My existing cast handloads do not chamber. I have had this problem before with Remington 141 and 81 due to short throats. So, here is an old question that I have never asked:

Both of these molds were designed with the .35 Remington in mind. Normally, if seated to the crimping groove, the leading band makes hard contact with the rifling. If seated so that it chambers, the boolet extends below the shoulder of the case. (I have still had okay accuracy)

Other approaches? I have always sized .358. Does .357 work for any of you? I suppose you could size the front band separately but that sounds like a PITA. What is your experience?

I had the same experience with a recently manufactuered RCBS 35-200 FN. The nose was .352" and was too big for all four of my 35 cal rifles' bore diameters which are the exact same rifles as the one's you mentioned plus a Savage 99 in 358 wcf. If i nose sized to .350" and sized the forward band to .354" the RCBS bullet functioned perfectly in all rifles. If I only had to nose size I could have lived with it but the 2nd extra step of forward band sizing was too much. I just ordered a custom mold that drops perfect and problem solved.

Throwback, You could change your lead alloy to cast a smaller boolit diameter overall. How much oversize is your boolit as cast? What alloy are you using? Have you tried linotype?

451whitworth, Was that .350" nose sizer custom made?

yes, it was custom made by me out of tool steel on my lathe.

It appears that using WW and tin with Lino added, the RCBS (but not the Lyman) will just chamber in the old Marlin. There is good engraving on the nose and mild contact on the front band. As long as the load is well crimped it does not seem prone to bullet pull-out if ejecting an unfired round. This is definitely a better bullet than the Lyman. I guess my frustration with the Lyman product is that while allegedly made for the .35 Remington, it just never fit any rifle I tried it in if it was crimped as intended in the crimp groove. It makes me wonder if someone screwed with the original design at some point. It is not an old mold - maybe five years.

My old 205 Gr RN fits all my 336's, model 8 and 81 and model 14 in 35 rem just fine. It is an Ideal mould however. The RCBS slightly engraves on the nose when seated in the crimping groove. It was probably made in the mid 70's to early 80's. I use 9 lbs ww's with 1/16 lb of 95/5.

Well, the RCBS works just fine - just a little feedback through the lever when chambering. 36 grains H4895 delivered six shots into an inch and a half at 50 yards. I will also try IMR1895 just for the heck of it. I had 31 grain loads in both powders in the 8mm Mauser on the same outing and the IMR was clearly superior - 5 shots consistently under an inch at 50 yards (I'll be lucky to get 2 inches at 100 with Mauser sights!).
