I know I should slug my barrel, but I don't have a mold yet, and need to get a sizing die for my star. What are you finding that the bullets need to be sized to work in the 500?

I am working up some loads for my BIL and time is short.

Should take .501". I use that in my BFR, JRH and a friends S&W.

I started with a .501 sizer (and am considering a .502 but I haven't bought one yet)

Two of my molds casts a wee bit smaller than .501
another mold casts .002 to .003 larger than .501

my X-frame with 4" bbl shoots them all successfully (accurate and no lead fouling) when lubed through that die...I have only shot at close range with this gun...some folks here shoot well beyond 50yds and get great results, I can't speak to that.
Good Luck,
Jon

I traded molds with a fellow and got a Mountain Mold double cavity that casts a 580 grain gas check design bullet that is .506.
The fellow I got it from said that his dad shot them in a .500 S&W and it was the most accurate bullet he found. I've never had or shot a .500 S&W but would imagine that big a bullet would pretty well stop anything it is launched at. I sized a few down to .500 to shoot in my ML with paperpatch...they shoot fine, but kick like a mule... will be trading or selling the mold to someone who can use it more.
