I'm not sure I have a favorite... but these are pretty high on the list:

"One Day" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqEDEED9F8s) sing all 5 verses and you get the entire gospel (I picked this link instead of a better-sounding one, because these guys didn't leave out the 3rd verse)

I'll fly away is one of my favorites, too. I seem to prefer the old hymns over the newer contemporary stuff. I don't think it matters to the Lord, the important thing is that you give Him praise. Praise Him from whom all blessings flow, is another one, as well as What a friend we have in Jesus.

I have a deep love for so many that have been mentioned so far, but my personal favorite is "at Calvary".
Pretty much sums it up for me:

Years I spent in vanity and pride,
Caring not my Lord was crucified,
Knowing not it was for me He died on Calvary.

Refrain

Mercy there was great, and grace was free;
Pardon there was multiplied to me;
There my burdened soul found liberty at Calvary.

By God’s Word at last my sin I learned;
Then I trembled at the law I’d spurned,
Till my guilty soul imploring turned to Calvary.

Refrain

Now I’ve given to Jesus everything,
Now I gladly own Him as my King,
Now my raptured soul can only sing of Calvary!

Refrain

Oh, the love that drew salvation’s plan!
Oh, the grace that brought it down to man!
Oh, the mighty gulf that God did span at Calvary!

Refrain

That's one that I specifically *dont* like.
Seems like every year, the first Sunday in July our church sings Battle Hymn, and I just stand there and keep my mouth shut. (it's a tiny congregation, and I usually sing out.) My wife doesn't sing it either (her choice)

I don't think "Dixie" is appropriate for church either, but I would sing that one. :popcorn:

For anyone who knows the story of the writing of the hymn "It Is Well With My Soul" has to be at the top. For me "And Can It Be" - complete salvation theology in five verses.

Since I've been singing in Church choirs since I was 16 there are a lot of favorites and few I dislike.

My interest in Christian music varies widely. One ancient hymn, the Te Deum Laudamus, is part of my church's (Lutheran) Liturgy. It is majestic, moving, and filled with praise toward God. The title is from the first stanza which means "We praise Thee O God." Here is a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvAoiu6v0h4

I also like a lot of Bluegrass Gospel. One of my favorites is On Heaven's Bright Shore, in particular the version sung by Ralph Stanly and Alison Kraus. That can be found on YouTube.

O Divine Redeemer, I Stand all Amazed, The Old Rugged Cross, In the Garden, Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me, Faith of our Fathers, Handel's Halleluja Chorus..."The Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace..." gives me chills every time, and "Christ the Lord is Risen Today" . I wish we could sing Easter hymns all year!

Amazing Grace (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMF_24cQqT0) -- Wintley Phipps -- with fascinating preamble / history before the song. So powerful!

"A Mighty Fortress is our God" Too bad the church I attend now won't play it. It wouldn't be the same without a pipe organ....

My Dad loves "Our Father has Light in His Window" This is an old Danish hymm that was translated to English. It is a tough one to find. I barely remember parts of the tune. It's really quite good with a great lesson!

I appreciate a wide variety of sacred music. For example, I love singing the Te Deum, which was sung by the early church and is part of my denomination's matins service. I see I posted this twice. Here is a nice version of the Te Deum: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvAoiu6v0h4

I also love old time Blue Grass Gospel: On Heaven's Bright Shore, Farther Along, [Allison Spear and the Stamps Baxter Choir: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UW2P9Un2ft0. Allison Spear sings this song from the soles of her feet on up; she can't stand still while singing it. Check it out. It makes me real happy listening to this one.

Another beautiful Bluegrass Gospel tune is "I Am Weary, Let me Rest." Listen to this version sung by Alison Krauss and the Cox Family: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KF9aboincMc

Here is a site that has almost any hymn that you can name. It is not a performance site, it has the lyrics and the tune is played on an organ. But if you have the voice for it you can sing along to almost any hymn!
Some are not there because they are copyrighted, but many of the old favorites are there.

My oldest son runs our praise and worship team and really brings down the house with his rendition of My Lighthouse by Rend Collective Experiment. This kid can wakeup this sleepy, stuffy, Southern Baptist church and turn them all into "Bapticostals" LOL

As we are approaching Easter: "He's Risen! He's Risen" which was written by Carl F. Walther, the first president of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. It is a joyous. triumphant declaration of Christ's victory over sin, death, the devil and the grave. The tune is upbeat and has a somewhat militaristic sound. That is appropriate, as it is the Church triumphant celebrating its Lord's victory.

This is Becky, Boaz's daughter. This is the artists who sang "We Believe" and "Our God's Not Dead" ,and they are singing one of the older songs. My dad is sitting here listening to it with me, and he is an old guy and he's enjoying it! If I had a kid I would rather them listen to Christian bands, even though they may not be traditional, than....................other ALTERNATIVES! These guys are pretty great, and they have come to be one of my favorite bands! Please let your kids listen to them rather than to some other bands that are not as great, and have other motives. Other bands have motives such as turning them to the Devil rather than to God. Newsboys is a great band please please please let your kids hear them. Always remember this verse.

Psalm 98:4King James Version (KJV) 4 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.

Before I lost my hearing in my left ear, and before my wife's illness, we used to sing in nursing homes/dementia units, etc.... It was truly AMAZING to see folks who couldn't remember their own children, light up when Jill sang Amazing Grace. So, that has to be my favorite. As to contemporary ........ I would have to pick "Seven Sundays In a Row" by Blue Highway and "Mercy Walked In" by Gordon Mott(?).

Faure's Requim, Having performed it a couple of times I find my self singing it at tough times. Agnus Dei and Libera Me Domine are great. His Pie Jesu has been preformed in many movies and countless stages. Even if you cannot understand Ecclastical latin the music moves you, If you do, and it reflects your belief in Him it is even better.

I'll start by voting separate (but great !) . There is so much bluegrass , country , folk , traditional , contemporary , Christian rock , etc that it should have it's own place . Please voice your yes or no and lets do it !

How about "on eagle's wings" (atleast I think that was the name of it). True story: Back in 1993-1994 (second and third grade for me) I was enrolled in a Catholic school in a town called Washington PA. I've no idea how but our music teacher and principal had us singing this on the front steps of the court house (ya know, with the obligatory elected and appointed officials and cameras on scene) two years in a row. Never much for religion myself, that said I rather liked the song. If someone even knows anything about the event I described above please PM me, I am curious.

Not a hymn as such, but appropriate for the subject, and absolutely beautiful and moving.
