I sent off my handi to get a .44 Mag barrel fit. Since it does not come with iron sights I'll be adding some. Does any one have any suggestions?
Also, I'm new to casting and reloading ( loaded some 30/30 for my Win 94 ae )and am looking for some Lee molds for hunting white tail deer that work well with WW lead...... Any pointers in general would be great. THANKS

For my 45/70 I installed a 1889 Springfield ladder sight on the rear, and a 1/2 beaded post on the front.
When I fired at the 500 yard gong, my bud pulls a cig out of the pack, lights it with a BIC before we hear the clang

I have a 44 Mag. and IF I were hunting deer with it, I would mix my ww with soft lead, add a little tin and choose the heaviest flat nosed boolit available.

Well I agree with William that you don't want a real hard cast for that girl.

If it was me I think I'd be very tempted to put a red dot on it. Faster to get on target than either scope or sights. Accurate to reasonable ranges.
No worry's about having a scope over the hammer, no hammer extensions, smaller, lower profile, less to snag on in the brush.

I have an older Simmons red dot that I have not hunted with, but I do have it mounted on a Air Rifle. That thing is incredibly accurate, put the dot on the center of the bull and pull the trigger, if I do my part that is exactly where the pellet goes.

I put a set of Williams hunting sights on mine and have been very pleased with them.

I like Williams, but most are set and forget, unless you want to fiddle with a small screw driver to adjust them. If it was something flat shooting might not be a big deal. I have been using the marbles #30 universal ramp. Easy to adjust.

.

FWIW, the Williams FP (FoolProof) receiver sight is available with (optional) target knobs (Model FP-whatever-TK), but on a Handi barrel that was issues sans sights, I would suggest a Williams Shorty ramp plus a sight blade for the front, and either A WGRS peep or a WGRS with an open sight blade, ILLO the peep, on the rear.

Before ordering and sights, though, you might want to measure your barrel's diameter at both the location of the front & rear sight, to find out if there'll be a difference in total sight heights (front/rear ramp/base + sight blade) to order.

For whitetail I would think a Lee 240 grain TL 50% soft lead and 50% WW would do the trick. I don't see the need for a 300 grain bullet just for whitetail.

all are good that have been suggested. if you cut a dove tail in the back and put a skinner after market ghost ring sight on the back and a simple blade on the front you will always be fast on target and cut center every time.

I replaced the factory rear sight on my 357 Handi with this and have been very happy.

If it were me, I'd stay away from cutting a dove tail. Drill & tap, and apply the sights. Heavy handed milling can sometimes alter the interior of the barrel dimension (ie: tight spots)

I find the williams receiver sights to sit high

I think the Skinner sight is the cat's meow!

some day all my rifles will be wearing Skinners

When you consider they are all steel, blued, adjustable and super heavy, the price is very good!

I have done business with them many times back in the "parts kit" days. Their AK receivers are second to NONE and their customer service is excellent as well.

Thanks for all the response. I've been looking at the Williams and Skinner sights too.
I've never seen the Nodakspud, looks good. I think that might be the ticket.

Is it Elevation adjustable too? The windage adj. is obvious but elev not so much...

Yea, I'm wanting something easily adjustable w/out tools.

Unless you get a wliiams with target knobs they generally need a screwdriver to adjust, then lock down again before firing. And only is on the receiver style sights. That Marbles set up has a push button to change elevation, still need a tool for windage.

Not to hijack this thread but I just went to midway's site to look at the williams WGRS and it's not even listed for the NEF/H&R rifles the link in post above is in the
Ruger rifles page.

Larry P ever go to his website? ever? It gets more dysfunctional every iteration, it seems....

Rant over.

I really like the the look of this sight , I have a 357 and 44 barrel coming and want to put a sight on them .
I see a nob is that for elevation and you use something else to adjust left right

does any one know of a good front sight option for the 44 or 357 handi the front of the barrel won't be drilled and tapped , but I suppose i could drill it and tap it or have a dove tail cut

I can't remember the cross reference, but there is one that fits the H&R Handis, but can't remember exactly....

I think it is the Encore... but not sure.

On my Buffalo Classic 45-70, I put a Redfield peep on the rear (had to make an offset bracket) with a high Lyman hood on the front. Works out pretty good so far.

Yep, I agree. Have one of these on my Handi 45/70. Front blade sight works perfect with this. Economically good-shooting combo.

Is that adjustable for elevation also?

Was hard to tell from the picture, didn't see any adjustment screw other than the windage...
