Just curious. I have and use that mold in my 45 colt lever, not for hunting, but for play. I have never messed with trimming down cassul brass, is there a benefit to using it?

The middle round is the most aesthetic IMHO. What game are you pursuing?

Me thinks with that line up, you pretty much have the bases covered for pretty much any quarry, well except fowl or upland birds. lol

I am a lever gun guy at heart myself. I don't have a 308 win lever, so the 308 marlin and 300 savage has to cover that base. lol I haven't tried cast in either of those though.

The middle round is the most aesthetic IMHO. I sorta like the 45 colt. Nice meplate to do damage. Plus it's short and fat, sorta like...... ah, nevermind. [smilie=1:

I got the 454 brass idea from another shooter who uses them in his Rossi Mares Leg. I'm getting zero case stretch so far and I'm finding that the higher pressure loads I'm using are'nt having the same effect as with with regular 45 Colt brass which are requiring trimming and I'm noticing some minor expansion just above the rim. Nothing with the 454 brass...at all.
It was mentioned in another one of my posts about this idea and it was basically a waste of time and I was told that my Win 94 had a sloppy chamber dimension. I am now 100% sure its not the case but simply thinner 45 brass. Anyways, this is why I am doing it :)
Depending on what I pick that morining these lever guns will be used on an elk tag (cow) and white tail deer (buck). My brother will be using his 45/70 or .375 Win on bull moose. I kinda wish I had the moose tag cause this Win 88 was my Dads moose gun and he was never able to put blood on it ;)
Happy Thanksgiving :D

I will have to remember that about the 454 brass, but I only play with mine, so only shoot very low power loads. If I ever decided to hunt with it, that would change.

All three are fine-looking cartridges and a pleasure to admire. I am most familiar with the 45-70 and I can see you got a load there that will get a fellow's attention when he pulls the trigger!

The 200gr boolit completely passed thru turning lungs into lung jelly. I fed her one more before she had the chance to make a dash for the swamp. She was about 100yds. Now that rifle of my dad's finally got some moose blood on it since that was what it was originally purchased for in 1969.

Glad to hear you finally blooded your dads gun, it just don't seem right that there would still be an 88 around that hadn't made meat. Bet your dad is smiling about now.

It made other meat for example; whitetail deer, Vancouver Island blacktail, Alberta mule deer and a few grouse. My dad shot the grouse years ago.

Well then, it sounds like it is well rounded out now in the meat dept. lol

Also a well rounded lever gun selection in my way of thinking, pretty much all bases covered.

Congrats on the successful hunt. I'm sure your father is smiling down on you. May that sense of pride and accomplishment be passed down from one generation to the next.
