Hello Folks,

Do any of you have first hand experience with barrels made by these folks? How does accuracy compare to Dan Wesson original equipment?

Thanks, Tom

I bought a 4" bbl & a 6" bbl from them. After comparing them to the 2 factory 4" dw bbl's & a 6" factory dw bbl that I own I found that:

The 1 in 10 twist ewk bbl's are the cat's meow with most long bodied bullets compared to their dw factory counterparts. The ewk bbl's really shined with wc's and 170g swc's consistently producing tighter groups with a wider verity of powders/test loads.

ewk bbl's/heavy shrouds with muzzle breaks. The 4" bbl'd ewk weighs as much as my 6" bbl'd 586 & the 6" bbl'd ewk setup is a couple of ounces heavier. The heavy weight/muzzle break/heavy or long bodied (150g wc's) bullets make these pistols an excellent choice for hot 357 loads to beat and bang on steel or bowling pins.

I was testing a brand new EWK arms 4 inch stainless barrel in my Dan Wesson Model 714 on 5/17/2014.

Had a box of cheap Winchester white box 38 Specials to see how it worked using a known ammunition. Shot my best full group using the Winchester white box.
(Wish it had been my wad cutters, but oh well)

My first cold shot went right in the red paste on Bulls eye. The rest of my shots grouped nice and tight, but were slightly higher. I usually keep on shooting different loads into the same target out of laziness, and they consequently end up looking like trash when I am finished shooting.

The target looked so good that I had to hang onto it after only shooting 6 rounds. I can safely say that I am loving the EWK barrel on my Dan Wesson Revolver.

I am glad EWK makes such a quality product, and he has been a source for many other DW items, like new barrel nuts, sights, and other small parts.

You can tell just by looking at the EWK barrel, the quality versus an original DW barrel. The EWK barrel is made by a craftsman who obviously cares about his finished product very much.

The handful of original DW barrels I own, all look like they were finished with woodworking tools by comparison, and lack anything even resembling a muzzle crown. The barrel to cylinder end was just as rough as the muzzle end, and looks like it was dressed with a coarse file, or a rough grit belt sander.

The rifling is great and so is the beautifully cut and polished forcing cone. The barrel is just as perfect, and meticulously crafted. As they say, the proof is in the target.

Go ahead and purchase the EWK barrel with confidence.

I've had an 8" RH barrel in .357. Scoped it. It is currently the most accurate handgun I own.
I've been very happy with the quality and accuracy of EWK barrels. My only quibble is the blueing isn't quite as deep.

Hi JD, What does the "RH" stand for? Thanks, Tom

Hi JD, What does the "RH" stand for? Thanks, Tom

RH is an EWK fabrication. In this case RH refers to a "Railed Heavy" barrel shroud.

VH is for a "Vent (ventilated/ribbed) Heavy" barrel shroud.

EH is for the EWK "Extra Heavy" slab barrel shroud.

Dan Wesson set the standard of innovation that Dan Wesson fans have came to know and love. That innovation is best described as simple, high quality solutions to the problems facing shooters. A big problem that has remained until now is the problem of the use of optics on Dan Wesson revolvers. Enter the EWK Arms RH series shrouds-for seamless integration of optics and iron sights! Quick change over between iron and optic sighting systems. Ability to use both short and long eye relief optics. No need to remove the rear sight. No need to drill and tap your original shrouds and destroy their collectible value!

RH Series Shrouds have an interchangeable front sight system that allows use of both DW and EWK made interchangeable front sights.

RH shrouds have a full length 7.3 series rail that is integrally machined as part of the shroud. It is a beautiful fit with a tasteful, updated factory "VH" look!

Quoted portion is from the EWK link about the RH (Rail Heavy) barrel shrouds.

Hope that adequately answers your question Tatume.

Anyone here still have one of their EWK shrouds?

No shrouds. I have one of his .44 4" barrels as a replacement for a factory unit. As stated above, very nice quality!

Last time I looked at his site, I didn't see DW barrels or shrouds?
