:mrgreen: Finally got a 10" 45 Colt bbl for my contender. Have one of the older octogon bll marked 45 Colt but it has a compensator and a screw in choke. I believe this dates from when T/C was having trouble with the ATF about the 410 shot designation. This bbl is great for 410 but not for 45 Colt. Bought another bbl on ebay, advertised as 45 Colt only and it was an older bbl that did not have choke or comp but was factory bored for 45/410. Just bought another bbl, 10" octogon marked 45 Colt and actually has just a 45 chamber! Anyone had any experience with a straight 45 bbl on the contender? I could use some insight/ advise. Thanks, Tim:mrgreen:

What would you like to know?

I've had a couple of the 45/410 barrels and with Colts they were terribly inaccurate and I often got key holing at seven yards. I now have a 45 Colt "Hot Shot" barrel. 10" Bull. It has a real 45LC chamber and won't chamber a 410 shell, however it does have a removable choke to use with the Speer Hot Shot capsules (never tried them). It is quite accurate with both the PCed cast bullets and the swaged (from 40S&W brass) bullets I've used it with.

Not satisfactory, at all.

The bbl I finally have is 45 Colt only, no choke, no comp but octogon and thin as paper at the muzzle, should be interesting when shooting! Tim

Finally got to the range and ran some Federal 225 J words and some Ultramax 250 gr Boolits, both were accurate and the Ultramax used Starline brass. Tim:bigsmyl2:

I poked around until I found a late "Gen 1" barrel in 45 colt, not octogon.
I've not shot it yet, but figure it should be a dandy for deer, especially from a bow blind.
It could be a quiet slammer too, using a 300 grain subsonic velocity soup can. No, my barrel is not threaded...yet.

A fully rifled bbl. will be more accurate for sure, but as far as the 45/410 bbls. go you might try a .454 lee hollow base minnie ball. They don't tumble when shot from my Bond Arms. The big hollow base seems to fill out the 410 portion of the bore and they expand like crazy when they hit, even at low velocity.
I do get a bit of light leading with 50/50 alloy, but it doesn't seem to build up or get worse.
My bbl. is only 3 1/2" so i haven't tried them in anything longer, but don't see why it wouldn't work....Anyway, just a thought for the 45/410 bbls. that might be worth trying.

BTW it's a 292 or 298 gr. boolit...haven't weighed any for a while. Congrats on your 45 bbl.
