Why is a Colt M45 $3800? It is not even on par with high quality $2000 1911's. It's a standard production gun. Here's one for $2k with no bids.

Dream 1911, full custom from heirloom precision. Starts around $3k.

Hmm. That price sounds pretty BS to me.

http://thearmsguide.com/355/colt-m45-now-available-for-civilians/

This is a year old, but says the MSRP is $1999, which is high but at least
not completely crazy like $3800.

Buy a Dan Wesson Specialist. MSRP $1870, and I can tell you that I have never
seen a single Colt built 1911 (owned many, seen, handled and shot more) that can
hold a candle to a Dan Wesson 1911. I own a couple of them, too.
Doesn't say MARSOC but otherwise, pretty much identical except color. A can of
gun paint in Coyote Tan would fix that, too. Better gun and $1930 ahead. ;-)

I have 2. A short barreled Colt or clone, and a slick, accurate 1911 without too many bells and whistles.Blued. I've gotten so I don't care for stainless stuff, and I've got a few. I would really like a 1911 with a decent trigger, a beavertail, good slide serrations, and decent sights. And if I could track down a decent single action with fixed sights that I could use for deer hunting when I visit my parents, it would pretty much be everything I need. 1911 in 45acp, revolver in 45 colt. Having something in 357 would just be gravy.

I'm a simple person. Simple folks...

My dream pistol? Guess I have simple tastes too, I have a lust for a S&W 586 or even 686, with a 6" barrel and the orange ramp front sight, and white outlined rear sight. I had two Model 19's like that and miss them terribly. A 586 or 686 would be a dandy replacement.

I paid just over $2,000.00 for a Series 70 that no one had shot since Wilson tricked it out just perfectly with everything needed but didn't have too much done to it. Checkered front strap, ejection port lowered and flared, sights, polished feed ramp, beaver-tail grip safety, extended trigger to fit my large hand. Currently Colt's retail price list has their top end Custom Shop Model O's at just over $2,000,00. What are you getting for $3,800.00? An engraved model?

The prices are crazy on the original run that had military markings that they were asked not to use and are not on subsequent models. But $3800 is still crazy. Hell, springfield custom shop Professional model built exactly the same as the CRG/HRT pistol is only $2800.

Perhaps I should have added it was a custom shop USMC marked in the pelican case, And I have seen the reg. production run pistols in the $2000 + level.
Don't get me wrong I love my Colts but my Colt Gunsite pistol can do everything I need from a 1911.

Unless you need an oddball, I'd buy used. You'll save a bunch, and wait a lot less. I have a couple F/A's, and would like more. If I can find a used one that fits my description, thats what I will do. I bought my 353 Silhouette model for $750 that way.

A linebaugh or Bowen 5 shot conversion in 45 Colt, or
a Dan Wesson in 45 Colt (I'm starting to wonder if those really exist), or
A Freedom Arms 83 (which I just bought after searching a year for the Dan Wesson and not finding one)

I am assuming you have shot the Colt and enough high quality guns to be certain of this?
The ones sold to civilians are not standard production but built in the Colt Custom Shop.

back to the topic, yes was also a dream gun of mine and they can be had for much more reasonable if you look around.

My review of a test sample Colt sent me last year and I wound up being able to purchase it after the review.

S&W 629 Mountain Revolver. First issue and it is roll marked Mountain Revolver.

There was one before that.

In 1989, the first gun of the S&W "mountain" concept came out; it was christened the "Mountain Revolver", but was NOT marked to identify the model... apart from the the normal "629-2" inside the front of the frame, that is. How do I know? I have mine in my hand as I type....

Most of the later guns of the series seem to be marked "Mountain Gun".

My 1989 model served me very well in some of the wildest and most-remote country left on this globe.

The gun shows its service to some degree, but that just adds to its charm (and memories). I was VERY glad to have it, a few times.

I went out with a girl 10yrs or so ago whose husband had died a few years before that. After a month or two she told me that her husband had a couple of guns. I told her to get them out and id clean and oil them for her. The first one she pulled out was a Rem Rolling Block 7mm Mauser. The second was what you have pictured. There were several more equally cool

I'd like a 2 1/2 inch 66 357. Almost bought one earlier this year but after agreeing on a 600 dollar price, the would-be seller told me

That 6" Model 686 went on my "Bucket List" when I utilized my Model 66 (no dash) as the donor gun to build my custom327 Fed Mag. A good friend found me one in a matter of a few months (no dash, no M) and I put a set of matching grips on it to go with the "Model 616." See the nice family picture below. Next I went after a Model 60 with adjustable sights, and thanks to Dale53 that too has become a reality. Sorry, the pictures of my 60-4 are stuck in my iPhone and won't come out to be displayed. :(
