this new computer did not come with an email program (like the windows mail or outlook that we have always had) how can I get that so we can get emails from the computer instead of logging into a website?

Outlook will only be on the computer if it has Microsoft Office loaded on it

Mozilla Thunderbird would probably be your best bet.

Thunderbird from Mozilla is what I use. It works well, and has never been a problem for me, and is free. It's from the same people that make the firefox web browser.

Not necessarily so. I just bought a refurbished computer for work that has Win7 Pro. I has Outlook but not Office. I still downloaded Thunderbird, Firefox and Open Office.

I got a Windows based computer because I needed it to run Quickbooks and UPS software. I try to stay away from Microsoft and Google at every opportunity that I can.

I work in the IT industry if you can get on the internet Windows 7 has a utility where I can remotely manage your PC and show you how to set up an e-mail client. PM Me and I will e-mail you If you are interested. There are A lot of ways to skin this cat so speak the easiest is to use Thunderbird as other have mentioned or you can buy Office 365 and for 10 bucks a month you get the complete office suite for 5 PC's and three mobile devices. I recommend the later.

Maybe it has an email client (program) that you just haven't seen yet, or that you don't recognize.
My wife has Win 7 on her machine, so I just did some exploring on it.

Try this, Tina.
Click the START button.
In the right-hand pane, click Default Programs.
Click the top hotlink 'Set your default programs'.
On the screen that opens, look in the left-hand pane and see if there is any email client available.

On our Win 7 machine it has Windows Live Mail ... and a bunch of other Windows Live applications.
I think they are all available if Windows Essentials is installed on the machine, and I think that is native (included) with the Windows 7 operating system.

My wife has experienced no 'glitches' when using Windows Live Mail.

Thunderbird.

Yup, get the tech support people at your internet provider to help you setup Thunderbird.
Only will take them a couple of minutes.
Quit banging your head against the wall.

Windows live mail came with my Win 7 machine. It has been working fine for the year I have had the machine. It is likely on your machine.
