I finally got the Contender I bought off GunBroker a few weeks ago. Very excited. Had some loaded .30-30 for the '94 but they wouldn't chamber. They are sized to .311"
Time to slug the barrel and see what this one wants. Very happy overall. Can't wait to get out and shoot it.

congratulation my T/C Encore barrels 308/3006 both were .308 so im thinking you will need a ,309 for your Tender. did you look down the barrel of that 45 colt to see if its chamber for a 410 too

Definitely find out what your throat measures, I have a 30 Herrett that refused to shoot! Untill I measured the chamber dimentions and started feeding it .314" diam. Boolits!!! YMMV. PS don't turn your back on that tender and BBL's, they multiply out of control LOL. Enjoy your new toys.

Yeah. 410 also. It has a stupid choke in the barrel. Now I need a tool to get it out. Not sure how well that one will shoot if the boolit has to jump that far.

My Contender 10" in 30/30 will just barely chamber a .310" dia. cast bullet , it is much smoother chambering with a .309" .

I can't tell any difference in the .309 " cast bullets and the .310 cast bullets down range.

So, all my loads in my Contender 30/30 now get a .309" dia. cast bullet.

Your mileage may very well vary...................

Yep, you will need a .22 barrel and a 14" 44 Mag maybe a Hornet so you can load to 22 Mag levels. May be a few more, you will know when you see them.

Now guys! Don't forget the carbine barrels and shoulder stocks! They make the tender an all-around gun!

Problem is, that makes it an illegal firearm, I believe. Stupid, yes, but I think that is how BATF looks at it.

You can go from pistol to rifle/carbine and back but you can't go from rifle/carbine to pistol format. Depends on how the frame was sold. I had a 7-30 Waters Contender, my first handgun, a must have for a 'tender.

hi , my name's j. ( aka fryboy ) and i'm umm i'm an addict ,it started seemingly innocent enough , and quickly it seduced me with it's sweetness .....if you havent shot it yet ....dont ! get rid of it quick before it's too late !!!!! while it's true that nothing expanded my reloading as much as the hoss trade that put me on to my first 'tender ( and i have learned alot since then ) it is the subtlest most sinister form of addiction ..so many barrels but only two hands ....[sigh] and every new barrel needs it's own dies, brass, loads, scopes, mounts ad infinitum , and yes sir the triggers are far better than the encores and much easier to adjust ,but ...since you're going to keep it and umm shoot it - welcome to the madhouse !!! for years i went bigger and badder and then last year .... i suddenly went to a 22 Khornet carbine [shrugz]
let's see ...bellm's tc, edstc and perhaps graybeards are perhaps 3 of the better related sites
the set up for center/rim fire and safeties vary among years of production , they also had a "easy open" configuration set up just before they came out with the encore and g-2 , sadly that's about when the trigger became umm less user friendly lolz
and to think most of us started with just a barrel or three ( i cant confess ....i lost count of current stock and still look at new ones lolz )

Only if you're lucky, my friend. If you're not, she'll just make you suffer, for a long, looooong time.

All 3 of my frames were bought as pistols. Said so in the BATF form and background check. I'm sure they are going to look that up. I think they got their hands slapped on contenders a while back as they couldn't prove how it was on the form. One of them stupid rules they tried to enforce.

Funny thing, I was at the gun show, the table with all the Thompson stuff ('tenders and Encores) kept calling me back. My friends that were with me said to walk away, if it calls you back then see about it. After the third time I figured I'd end it, call the wife and ask, knowing she would say no. Well, she didn't... She said "do you really want it?" lol, stupid question. That was a little over a month ago, already looking at more barrels, pistol and rifle length, and shoulder stocks. I didn't have internet back in the early 90's when I had my contender, so much easier to find these things now.
