Hi I'm relatively new to casting and I have learned alot from reading and searching on this site. There certainly is a wealth of knowledge here! My question I picked up a Lyman 45 along with a couple dies and moulds. One of the moulds is an RCBS 44-240-SWC-GC. I cast some with COWW they drop air cooled at .429-.431 and 241-244 grs. My H&I sizer says 429 but its an older one [no o ring]. After sizing they are .425. I measured inside of die .425 and I part is .4245. I've read how to open these up BUT my question can I open it up to at least .429 or .431 and not have lube going everywhere. Or would I be better off trying to find a real .431. Thanks...appreciate your opinions

almost,

I have opened a .401 sizer body to .403 and using the original "I" die it didn't leak hardly at all. Going from .425 to .431, in my opinion would leak. That's three thousandths on a side which I think would allow lube to pass.

Welcome to the site.

Agreed! That's a little bit too much room on each side.
Go for a new one, or get a used one on here from someone. Good luck! The 45 is a nice luber.

almostgone,
I believe your thought is correct, Look to buy a new die.

Another option might be to open up the die and then either buy or have someone make a new plunger for the now larger die.

Thank you all for your informed answers...much appreciated! I think for now I will sort them, hand lube, shoot and see what I get. And pick up a .430 or so on S&S or God forbid buy a new one. Thanks again!
