Got myself a Lee 300 grain .452 gas check mold on the way. Also have some gas checks and some .452/50cal super glide sabots. I plan on using the gas checked boolits in my .454. I am thinking I can cast some nearly pure lead with a dab of tin to help mold fill out and use with sabots in my Encore .50BP. I am guessing the softer alloy will be better for hunting and no lube is needed.

Am I correct?

Thanks,

Rosewood

Should work good. I used to shoot cast bullets in a 30/06 in a sabot at 4300 FPS, so see no reason why it wont work in a muzzle loader.

Your Encore should/will be able to launch them boolitz at equal or greater speed than your .454. I use a water dropped alloy in my Smokeless ML guns. Naked boolitz should be fine in the ML. But, if you blow sabots, then add GCs to better support the sabot the outer edge of the bases. I only shoot Harvester sabots.

Lubing the bullets may have a benefit of not alloying the boolit grease groves to obterate.

I only use smooth sided boolits from molds by LBT and BRP. I believe NOE , offered the BRP design at one time.

Thanks, can't wait for my molds to show up :) BP starts this weekend, doubt I will be able to get it tested before then.

I tried it and couldn't get good groups but I've heard others that tried it with excellent results. You've already got the mold, so it won't take anything to try it.

With the sabots, you may want to not install the gas check though. It may seat in the sabot better that way.

I cheat and go light...I use Lyman's 200gr SWC 452 bullet in a sabot in my 50 cal Muzzleloader with 80gr of Triple 7. A nice light load but still slinging a 200gr bullet towards the deer.

Some of the best groups I ever shot out of my Remington MZ was with a 333 gr RCBS boolit. No lube or sizing needed. I did however weight every boolit and only shot the ones that weighed 333 grains. Harvester sabots as well. Funny thing, my Encore MZ does not like them at all.

My knight loves the lyman 250 gr.r-n boolit 100 grains 777 loose- harvester sabot - no lube

Encore 50 BP
Win 209 primers
Blackhorn 209 100 and 110 grain used.
300 grain cast in a TC yellow sabot
250 grain SST in a red sabot (my previous standard load with 110 grains)

Went and shot the new loads today and began experiencing gas blowing by around the primer. Even tried dropping the loads and went back to my standard load and about 2 in 3 shots, I get gas blow by. Anyone know why it is doing this? I assumed it must be a pressure increase so I dropped the load but same results. It is kind of weird because you hear almost a pheew noise from the breech and then hear the boom at the end of the barrel, you can notice the delay. Then I check the primer and it is smokey and smokey all around it. The primer is not piercing.

Thanks,

well regardless of that issue. I just killed my my first deer with my own cast with WW. Yippee. What a rush. I think I am hooked.
