I got my newest mold the other day.
It is the NOE 358318 245 gr for my .35 Whelen.
I opted for the 245 gr for starters, because my barrel is only a 1/14 twist.
I feel that to get the accuracy I want out of the heavier 280 gr bullet, I should have a 1/12 twist.
Does anyone have any good or starting loads for IMR 4964 or IMR 4350, with or without fillers.
I hear these two powders can give you better volocity than the faster powders with fillers.
After initial load testing , I intend to try this boolit with PC.
But I want to build a base line for accuracy before I venture off into a whole new world.

Just ran some tests with imr4350 not long ago with a 200 gr. and a 280 gr. boolit.
Starting load of 50 gr. with the 200 gr. and 48 gr. with the 280 (358009).
Both of those loads are good for 1 1/2" or better @ 100 yds. in my rifle. They both average about 1.2 to 1.3".
My rifle has the 1/14" twist...you should be fine with the 280 gr. boolit. I have run the 358009 to 2200 fps. plus with imr4350 with the same accuracy as above.
The 48 gr. load was 1950 fps. with the 280 gr. boolit.

I did not use a filler with these loads. You might also check out the thread on "black bear loads in the 35 whelen" a few threads below this one. Yodogsandman has some pics of some of his targets shot with 4350. He's still developing his loads and already getting great accuracy with a 358009 boolit.

Thank you 35 Shooter.
I also opted for the 245 boolit so I will have it on hand when I build my 358 Winchester.
Have you tried 4064 in any of your loads, or heard of anyone using it ?
Powder selection for me right now is not an issue, thanks to friends over the past year scrounging LGS's for me when I was working.
I have used 4064 in my " J " bullet loads and was very satisfied.
I also have 4895, 4350, 4320 and 4831 in the slower powders, and well as a full complement of the faster powders that I can adjust the loadings for the 200 gr boolits that I find in my manuals.

Any thoughts about Powder Coating Boolits for this rifle ?

I haven't tried 4064 but others here have had great results with it according to what i've read. I believe that's what Shuz uses in his 1/12 twist with a 358009.
Maybe some others will chime in soon with some of those powders. I have used imr and h4895 with 200 gr. boolits and it worked well around 40 gr. with a dacron filler. I stopped using the filler after 46 to 47 gr. and best accuracy was 48 gr. Had about the same results with imr3031 with the 200gr.boolits starting at 39 gr. with a filler through about 46 gr. Again 48 gr. with no filler was best for me, even with 3031.

I did have some hangfires with both 4895 and 3031 with the reduced loads without a filler. No problems at all with a filler and much better accuracy. If you haven't used a filler before, read the sticky about them first. I'm sure you know it's very important to leave no air space between powder and boolit base.

I don't have any experience with the coatings on boolits other than trying vht spray epoxy once. Actually got 1/2" groups @ 100 yds. with a 200 gr. boolit for 4 or 5 shots around 1800 fps. Also got a TON of leading in the bbl. after 6 or 7 shots....LOL that wrapped it up for me. I'm interested in it, but i've still got a ton to learn about lubed boolits. Right now Ben's Red and R5R's simple lube are getting it done for me!

The 35 Whelen shoots well with a large variety of powders. Mine prefers IMR4064 for all jacketed bullets. Using a NEI 358 282GC and IMR4064, best groups were at the start load of 42.0gr and 48.0gr. The 48.0gr load was after switching to oven heat treated boolits. I have a 1 in 12 twist.

I tried powder coating these boolits and was disappointed. The PC coating increases the size of the boolit and can't be controlled enough for me to get any real accuracy. I'm not done with PC'ing, just taking a break. I'll re-visit PCing for the 35 Whelen at some other time.

Don't let that stop you! I think the 358318 or NOE model would do well with PC and was considering it, myself. Powder coated, non-bore riding rifle boolits seem to do better. The NOE 358318 tapers back from the nose a bit more and should do well with PC.

I had a problem with the size increase on the bore riding section of mine and tried "half jacketing" the PC coating. You can see it at:

I'm trying out the 358009 (HT'd) with IMR4350 and getting good groups right from the start load of 48.0gr.

35 Shooter got it right.
I use AA4064 in my .35 Whelen with the 358009, and my bbl is a 1:12 twist. My load is 48g with a heat treated boolit cast from 3:1 alloy(ww:lino). Primer is CCI 200, and OAL is 3.107. Velocity is 2169fps with an SD of 9. Best 5 shot group was .908" at 100 yds. Most groups are closer to 1.5", but that may be a result of the nut behind the trigger. For this rifle, which is a Rem 700 with a free floated Douglass bbl, mounted in a plastic/fiberglass black Rem stock; this load ain't broke, so I'm not gonna try and fix it!
