I have a Remington 722 in 300 Savage. I have a Lyman globe style front sight and a Redfield peep sight mounted on the rifle.

I just loaded up 25 rounds built with a Lyman 311413 bullet, 169gr pointed gascheck, and 12gr of Trailboss.

I walked out back and shot some steel with the load hitting 10 out of 10 off hand at 50 yards on a 4"x4" hanging plate. I feel there is room to go up in the load and I will post on my efforts when I get time to load and shoot some more.

Anyone else shooting cast in a 300 savage?

Seem like my rifle really likes the 169gr bullet with about any powder I can put in the case.

Good news for me. I have a 311413 on the way and a Savage 99
in 300 Savage. Thanks for the info, will have to try some other powders
first as I have no TBoss in stock.

I have a 99 Savage in 300 that shoots great with just about any CB I've used . My powder is Reloader 7. 21-22 grs and a large pistol primer. The Lee C312-155 2R shoots great and can be seated to the crimp groove and still have the GC inside the neck. Great boolit for the 7.62x39 also. :castmine:

Quick question for you 300 sav. guys. Does it make a difference if the boolit base [gas check] is well below the shoulder?? I am testing my small ring mauser in 300 savage currently... and I don't seem to own a mold that produces a boolit that will keep the "check in the neck" . Thanks.. MV
BTW thanks Denver for the C312-155 2r Info!

You should not have any problem going up on the Trail Boss loads. They don't do anything unnerving when the pressure is increased.

The maximum load for the 32-20 is listed as 2.8gr of Trail Boss with a 100gr bullet in the book. It is listed at about 12,000psi pressure. I have taken it up to a full case load in a strong gun -- 4.8gr. No problems. There were no pressure signs and nothing unexpected. I don't know what the pressure was, but the felt recoil was about the same as some of my top-end loads for the same gun (6.0gr of SR4756 with a 100gr bullet).

Racepres -
I have not had any problem in the .300 Savage with the gas checks "down in the fire" as Felix once put it - I do use crimp-on gas checks, not the Lyman ones that slip on & off so easily on some bullet bases.

Thanks Charlie! I am trying not to get the boolit that deep... but the throat won't allow it on all but one boolit I've tried.. so... I'm just gonna "go for it".. BTW I am currently foolin' w/ a plain base design in this ole mauser... Wish me luck!! MV

Do any of you guys using Trailboss use it in .30-30? What are your impressions? I was thinking about using it for low recoil loads for the boy in my new(1979) .30-30 saddle ring trapper. Is it a decent powder for deer hunting, or just SASS crap and targets?
