Some years back, I had a Ruger No. 1 in .416 Rigby, and a friend from Nevada sent me a batch of gas-checked slugs from the RCBS 416-350-FN mold that weighed about 380 grains all up. These bullets were wonderfully accurate over charges of 50-52 grains XMP 5744, giving me 1.5 inches or less at 100 without even trying.
I am considering building a .416 Taylor on a VZ-24 action, and while I will certainly shoot some condom bullets through it, cast are a whole lot cheaper and more pleasant to shoot, not to mention useful on a wide variety of critters.
Wondering what other shooters of the various .416s like in the way of a mold.

I sent my RCBS 416 mold to "Buckshot" to have him HP the mold. I also had him include a block pin so that I could cast either the original FP boolet or an HP. I also have an Accurate #42-330C semi pointed mold. This is a very accurate mold that drops a 342 gr. boolet with my 50/50 tin added alloy. I also have a dedicated paper patch mold that makes a 394 gr. boolet when patched and ready to load. I am experimentating with patching .410" rifle cast boolets in the 300 gr. range, results so far are promising. It is safe to say the RCBS will be more than adequate for about all needs. Look at the Accurate molds under the #42 heading in their on line catalog. Good luck on the Taylor.Robert

Dan has a LBTWFN mold and I buy his boolits for my 405Win. I don't shoot all that many! I think it will cast .417, he sizes them down for me.

I submitted these two designs to Tom at Accurate; they bothshoot well in my 416 Wildcat based off of a 300 WSM as the parent case.
