A much used 870 pump shotgun: put 2 shells in magazine and pump to load, the second shell follows and both jam under the barrel. What's the fix? Thanks for your help!

Extractor? It is riveted in place. Might be out of whack.

E xtraction is no problem. 2 shells instead of one come out of the magazine when loading or after a fired shell is extracted.

Hi.
Shell stop? You should get Kuhnhausen's book!

Sounds like a broken shell stop. Easily installed with the right tool.

Agree, shell stop at the entrance to the magazine tube should stop the second shell from coming out and isn't.

1+ sell stop. Not hard to fix.

Shell stop. I believe they can be tweaked (tuned) by light bending till you get desired results. I believe they are press fitted into place with a little bit of displaced metal holding them.

There are two, one on each side of the receiver and supposed to be staked in place.

It may just need a good cleaning though.

The right shell latch stops or interrupts the 2nd or following shells. This is the one with the long nose up by the mag follower. This is what breaks, or, the whole latch pops out and needs to be restaked in place............................................. .........Jim

Yep, shell stop. Look for broken ends or crud under the shell stop. They fit in channels in the receiver and are staked in place. The pins that hold the trigger group also pass through them. Inexpensive fix with the correct tool.

Sounds like the shell stop to me too.

I have seen a heck of a lot more frozen in place than broken. Even if they need restaking the trigger group and the front pin will hold them in place to work, you just have to be careful when assembling the gun.

A cut off 12 ga shell with the primer knocked out for the pin to pass through works very well as a holding jig while staking.
