I picked up this Lyman HP mould and while there is reference to the bullet number, CastPics lists it, I can't find anything about it as a hollow point version. Anyone have any info about this?

Back when Lyman actually gave a crap about their casting business, you could get ANY design hollow pointed for a small charge, right from the factory. Sad to say, those days are gone. Nowadays you have to have some person of questionable character and ill repute, like Buckshot fer instance:mrgreen:, alter your mould if you want a HP. Ain't progress wunnerful?[smilie=1:

cbrick--311440HP's are "out there". I am currently using a 311440HP that I have on loan from one of my good friends on this board. If you ever wanna turn loose of yours, please lemme know.--Shuz

Is that mould PB or BB?

Thanks Bret, kinda what I suspected but thought just maybe at one time or another it might have been a catalog item.

Shuz, Turn loose of it? You mean sell one of my children? :veryconfu

Well, what's it worth to ya? [smilie=1:

DJ, its a BB. I'm considering asking Mr. Buchshot to make a plain base out of it. I know, it can be honed by hand but if I do that I would just feel better about it having it done with proper machine tools, that's just me. Also, I don't want to alter the original pin but I may see if he could make an additional shorter pin. The original is really long at over 3/4 of the bullet length.

I'm confused - a natural state for me, I assure you!:-D

Are we talking about the 130 grain, spire point, plain based boolit?

Or are we talking about the 147 grain, blunt nosed, gas checked boolit?

I'm thinking of using the 311 410 in my 308 x 39mm, if I ever get the thing built:???:.

But I'm not sure that blunt nosed 311 440 really needs a HP to improve its "stopping power.":Fire:

I had one HP'd from Lyman back when they would do them. Shot pretty well as a plinker in the .30/30. Lost track of it over teh years though./beagle

C1PNR, 130 gr SPHPBB.

beagle, could use it in the 30-30 but its kinda light for a decent 30-30, was thinkin more along the lines of 32-20 or 32 H&R Mag in a 14" Contender. Bullberry has both in .308" bore listed as custom barrels. Have to think on it a bit, not uncommon for me to come up with a new mould and then start looking for a gun to shoot the bullet.
