Made a score at the gunshow today. I was walking around and came across a Herter Super Model 3 sitting in a pile of stuff. For $20.00 it just had to come home with me. the press has the adapter to use standard dies and a shell holder adapter that fits universal holders. Beats the Lyman Spartan single stage I've been using for years. Don't think I'll break it resizing for 7.7 Jap.

Congratulations. Those things have more metal in them than some of the new cars.

can't go wrong with a model 3...my first press, for everything from .22hornet thru 7.7jap...a tank for sure, wish I still had mine, great score for 20 bucks!

Just don't drop it on your foot! :kidding:

Actually, that was one of the best all-around presses they made, and along with the 6 hole turret press gave great value for one's reloading dollar. I swapped mine off to get a "Super U" which was even stronger but didn't take the oversized dies for shotguns and BMGs. Nice score, especially with the converter parts!

Whew ! I'm glad I didn't see that. I've always regretted not getting a Herter's Press back in the day but I need another press like I need another press. Nice score, you did good.
I started with the Spartan also. That came right after the Lee Classic hammer the primers in reloader.

dang, you paid FULL price???...(had to look it up in my 1973 Herters catalog...it was $18.97 in '73 dollars new)

(and it is 23#, so as greenfrog sez, don't drop it on your foot!)

Nice score!

Not full price, he was asking $25.00 and didn't want to drag it back to his shop. Already have it bolted to the bench and it makes my Lyman look down right whimpy.

Frank, that's a pretty one and love the repaint. I didn't score the turret press, just the single ram type. I'm keeping it the original crinkle brown paint job for now. The paint is about 90% there so I can't see any reason to strip and repaint, it has nice patina.
Herter also made a double ram press, from pictures it looked like a real beast.

Yup, way over paid. 13.95 in 1962 and yup again, still going strong along with the other two just like it bolted on the bench.
Best and strongest C frame press ever made.

Gee back in '63 the only reloading I was doing was with my Whamo sling shot, didn't get my first rim fire till '68.

Freightman:

I see you slipped a 234 into the mix. Looks really good.
