Folks, I almost expect to be called an idiot for asking this, but is it possible to plug a barrel (to determine diameter) from the muzzle end using some pliable substance such as clay? I understand that one cannot be certain that the diameter of a barrel be consistent from muzzle to breech, but beyond this source of error, why not? I have a few Makarovs and CZs in 0.365. Wondering how much variation I have between these before I start loading my own cast bullets. Same story on a few 45 ACPs (0.452). Thanks.

Cerrosafe could be used
What is your purpose for plugging a barrel? Would you be asking about "slugging"? Are you wanting to find the barrel dimensions?

Do a search on barrel slugging. There are several threads on this site that tell you ways to slug either end of your barrel and/or do a complete end to end slugging to get measurements.
