Anyone ever run the Loverin 311466 in a 30/30 with good results?

I snagged a two cavity ACE mold from a member here recently. What a great mold. ACE, you guys make a spectacular mold guys, really!
Anyway, even though the mold casts an almost perfect boolit, it's no different than anything else I have fed my .308 bolt action.
SO, I recently traded for a clean little 30/30 barrel for my ever growing Handi Rifle collection. I'm thinking it might do well here.

If any of you have had success with this boolit in 30/30, please share your load.

Try 9.0 - 9.5 grs. of Alliant Unique with the bullet, sized to .311 "

Report back.

Thanks Ben,
I almost ALWAYS start with Unique and most certainly will this time too.
After all the failures Ive had with .30 caliber over the last five years, it would be nice if these two would play nice at higher velocities though.

Cast from ACWW, Hornady check and the bottom two lube grooves filled with Ben's Red they weigh pretty consistently 164-165g

I like the looks of these. They have a small meplat unlike the original designs I have seen. Oughta be able to run these in a lever gun if I can get them seated just so. I figure for a lever gun I may have to trim to a custom length so I can use one of the lube grooves as a crimp groove. That's neither here nor there though. One of the greatest things about single shots; OAL is pretty much whatever I need it to be.

That blasted ugly looking boolit always shoots good when others fail. My 94's love that boolit!

I used an Ideal #311466 @ .310" in my Marlin #336 (.30-30Win.) and was very pleased with how accurate it was. Some of my best loads were 14.5 - 15.5gr. WC 820/AA #9. Not to contradict Ben, but 9.0 - 9.5gr. Unique is a bit anemic for a GC'ed CB as I'm using 9.3gr. with a GC'ed CB half that weight in my .243Win.: I think I'd try 9.5 - 10.0gr.

I'll echo Maven,

Try 5 round lots with 9.0 , 9.5, 10.0 and 10.5 grs. of Alliant Unique and let the rifle tell you what it likes.

The 311466 is an excellent bullet to use in SS and bolt action 30-30s. I use the 311466 in my Contender 21" barreled carbine 30-30. I cast them out of COWWs +2% tin. I AC and age them for 7 - 10 days before use. They are sized .311, GC'd and lubed with Lars NRA 50/50 lube. Cases are NS'd (no need at all to FL size with this load until after many firings), primed with WLRs aor CCI 200s. A .31 M die is used to expand the necks. I load them over 14.5 gr Alliant 2400 and use a 1/2 gr Dacron filler. I do not crimp the case mouth for use in the SS Contender. Velocity is 1722 fps out of the 21" barrel at a measured 28,700 psi(M43). Accuracy is excellent and they go into 1.4" or less at 100 yards all day long.

Well, 2400 ain't working as well as I like in 357 mag (handi rifle) and I still have several pounds. I think I'll have to try that one.

Dean,

Have you pound cast that 30-30 barrel? I did another pound cast on my NEF Handi .30-30 and I would like to compare it to yours. I will be by your shop in the next couple of days.

Thanks

If you do, start at 13.0gr. and work up to 15.0 in 0.5gr. increments. Go to 16gr. only if you must. (I know 16.0gr. is THE load for .30cal. rifles, but a .30-30 ain't a .308Win. or .30-06.)

No, not yet. I have a bit of work to do before I get there. I am reworking the forearm and fitting it first. Forearms on Handi's are pretty critical to accuracy. well....they CAN be sometimes.

Try a small o ring under the forearm on the post.

Yeah, the Oring works but you have to replace them if you switch barrels with any frequency. I prefer to bed the forearm from the receiver to the stud and free float it from the stud forward. It repeats and doesn't get lost. If you take and extra moment to buy new forearm screws and time them all the same way under the proper torque AND have dedicated forearms to each barrel, you're better off.

I have shot many, many hundreds of 17.0 grains 2400 from 6 different Winchesters, a Marlin and a Stevens. Heat treated and gas checked, this has been uniformly accurate.

I use 6.8 gr of red dot in mine for a plinker load that holds 1 inch at 50 yards. I seat the boolit out far enough to just touch the lands.

Yeah I got an oil ideal 311466
GC and lube speed green about 1800 fps with adi2206
Or 2207 worked for me.
@4gns bullseye lubed 50/50 bees wax / vaselene
works to.
Sized and wrapped in paper works as well.

Sometimes @ 1moa on a good day.
We with a touch of lino seems to do it for me.
I size so I can touch the lands in my gun and big enough to nearly fill my tapered throat.
Hope it helps.

I made a tapered sizing die to so. Matching like my throat but still need a second size for

The Bach end of the bullet.
Sometimes it shoot real well and others not so.
I guess it must be the user. Assembler.
