Gents - Years ago, a friend and I loaded some 38 and 357 with some commercially cast, very long wadcutters. I think they were called 38 cal logs and were used for bowling pins shoots. I've tried locating some recently and have come up empty handed. Its been atleast 25 years or so, since I used them, but hoping some others here may recall them or have some knowledge on where I can pick some up. If I recall they looked something like a double length wadcutter and weighed somewhere in the neighborhood of 250 gr. Thanks for any help - Bill in MA

I have now found them, I guess I should have searched for "38 cal bowling pin bullet" first, before all the other ways I had tried - Penn Bullets and Badman Bullets apparently have what I'm looking for and I also found that Magma made/makes the mould that casts them - Thanks Bill

And, accurate/western powders actually lists current data for them.

Just looked them up. Love to see a gel test on one of those out of a 4 inch revolver

No experience with a 38/357 bullet of this length/weight. I have no reference showing length for a wadcutter of this length, so I can't run a Greenhill calculation. I'm wondering if a bullet of this form/length would stabilize in the 1-16" to 1-20" twists found in most revolvers in this caliber at the velocities possible in 38 Special or 357 Magnum chamberings.

I'll try to post a link diectly for that bullet, but think it will get you to the 38 catagory only. http://www.pennbullets.com/38/38-caliber.html The one I'm looking at is the 230 Gr "Thunderhead" I think they might be a bit of fun to play with in a Ruger Maximum. Thanks for the info on reloading data, always good to have added info - Appreciate the help - Thanks Bill

That Penn Bullets has some really excellent info with their boolits! Most of the places
have the diameter and "best quality, hard cast" and that is it. These guys have a lucid
description of the specialty nature of the boolit and a bunch of loading data with pressures
and even pressure std deviations. Recommendations to make functional ammo (size
vs seating depth, and why). Amazing.

Seems like a high quality, very knowledgable supplier.

Dittoes to Bill's comments on the Penn Bullets site. They seem to do the right things for the right reasons.

Interesting, I made something similar with the bottom half mold of the old Lyman 2 part SWC bullet. I was just seeing what they looked like in various weights by trimming a pin a little at a time and casting a few, and never realized someone was shooting something like them.
