After having my thermostat give up on what was almost a free Lee Production Pot, I started looking at some of the PID projects done on here. Needless to say, I was sold; after all, why just go back to the original design, when you can install an upgrade, which can then be swapped to other pots as you upgrade furnaces?
The parts are from Auber, the 1/32 DIN PID, 25 AMP relay, and K style thermocouple. I put the parts on, and in, a PC power supply case; the power supply actually almost fit the PID, just had to grind about .020-.030 off one side of the ventilation grill after cutting out a section. After that, the PID snapped in place and doesn't wiggle.
The pics were taken after I tested it, and had it "learn". I now have to move everything back out to my garage, so not all wires are there, but the general idea is in place.

Neato! That's the one I got for my build too. I do love a PID!

This is the PID at work; I need to clean up some wiring, and am thinking about putting a switch on it as well. But it's an excellent upgrade, and so far is making it easier to knock out a lot of boolits without frosting.

Congrats!! Another well-behaved pot!

Very nice. That's my next project.

The bandwagon is nowhere near full. Jump aboard!

I just saw this on Ali Express. I wonder if it could be made to work.

There are some guys using those. Above link shows some threads on em.

1/ Centigrade only.
2/ Need to change (easy) a programmable variable to allow way beyond the 400C (752F) default limit.

What he said. Probably the cheapest way to get a PID (I have two Rex's). The display is slightly smaller than some of the others, but I don't consider that a problem, same as reading *C only, as once you decide on the temp you want you generally set it and don't touch it. I printed a small conversion chart between *F and *C, laminated it and stuck it on my PID cases.
These PIDs are widely available on ebay. Just be aware that some are relay only (easy fix if you can use a soldering iron) ideally you want an SSR output, also watch out for the operating voltage as they do make a model that is 220v only.
Just check the specs when looking.

I need to get my pid put together real soon, it's almost casting season.
