Hi gang;

I'm sorting through a bunch of old
dies and stuff (more of these posts to come, I'm sure)...looking for a feeler on
a couple of items. I can see that RCBS still makes this stuff, albeit custom, my
question is: Does anyone still use it??

1) RCBS 219 Imp. Zip. form die.
Only other stamp on the die is 'P'

2) RCBS 3-die set, form dies #1, 2 and
3 for 22/30-30 Imp. Also has the 'P' stamped on it

3) 2-die set (FL sizer and seater) RCBS
stamped 17 LOV. I have to assume this is a .17 Lovell. These have an 'I' stamped
on them, and 'SPEC', I'm assuming special order.

All are in good shape, minimal surface rust and not beat up. Are these paper weights, or is anyone
still using these?

Any help much appreciated!

Trails4u.

I'll give this a try, and I've been converting cases only a few years.

1) Ive been asked to do the 219 zipper and never the Imp.

2) The 22 30-30 I've never heard of before

3) The 17 Lovell I've ran across doing research for something else and nobody has asked me if I make those.

The letters I would assume are the makers initial. The hard part with some dies is you don't know if they're any good until you use them. Secondly unless a person has the weapon right there and can use the chamber as a guide it gets hard to make them right. Sometimes they make form dies but not the gauge for them. Something like those if I got them at a real good price I wouldn't touch them unless I owned what they're made for. Or use them as an intermediate form die for something else.

RCBS puts a date code on their dies.
For the older dies the stories say the dates started in 1949 and some say 1950.
A P code die is from 1964 or 1965.

An I code die is from 57 or 58.

The .219 Zipper Imp. and the .22-30-30 Imp. should look a lot like the .225 Winchester.
Not much use for them unless you have a rifle already in those chamberings. The form dies might be useful for making .225 brass from .30-30 brass or possibly intemediate dies for the .25-35.

I would be interested in these if you decide to sell

Are you selling the 17 Lovell dies?

I'll probably end up selling them all, if they have decent value. If not...I'll hang onto them and keep them in the 'maybe, someday...' pile. :)

I have a mountain of stuff to go through from an estate sale find...bunch of interesting calibers; dies, brass, primed brass, loaded ammo, etc..... More to come...

Thanks for the feedback!

Chris.

I have a good friend with a lever action in .22/30-30, it is one nice shooting rifle. He makes his own brass but I can run this set by him in a few days and see if he is interested. I'd bet that if you put in the for sale ads they would sell.
