Got a new muzzle loader, 45 caliber and a rusted bore. Could someone tell me who can reborn and rifle it to round ball twist?

these are two premier 'smiths who specialize in just what you want done. neither has a website. ya hafta call & when ya do evenin' are probably best & let the phone ring. if they're workin' on somethin' they've gotta shut the machine down to answer the phone. when ya talk to them they can advise what they can do with yer barrel. luck & have a good'en, bubba.

Ed Rayl does great work but be prepared to wait, the last barrel I ordered from him took 18 months and a friend of mine is now past the 3 year mark waiting on barrels from Ed.

I had Bob Hoyt do one for me, didn't take but about a month and the price was very fair. It's a sure shooter now!

Before you contemplate doing this, pull the breech plug and make sure the threads are big enough, and the dovetails and other holes in the barrel aren't too deep to allow it before you send it off. If it's not breeched up properly (end of breech plug not butting up against the bottom of the hole on a sharp shoulder) it's a good time to have that fixed as well. I haven't found a factory barrel yet that was done right.

i used to go with a 1-72 twist for the ,50 round ball and it worked real well. however i found the 1/60 twist rate easier to sight in, dont know why but it is for me.

I've settled on 1-60, to 1-66 for the best twist range.

your right waksupi, i dont know what it is about the 60 to 66 but they sure do shoot. the fellow who talked me into switching was the fellow who used to own the deer island gun kit shop. he used 1/60 on his 50/s and said after a lot of testing that one shot the best. 125 yard shots were very accurate for me when i got antelope with it. my neighbor liked the two 50/s i had in the 1/60 twist so much that he talked me into selling both guns to him. their is a barrel builder back east that uses a 1/56 twist for most cals. and his guns shoot very good.

I had Bob Hoyt take a rusted .50 cal Renegade barrel to .58 with a 1-80" twist. fair price and what I consider quick turn around
