As we all know, powders like H110, Li'l Gun, W296, and such, are pretty much non-existant right now, and data for 300 MP in the .45 colt is hard to find also. But I can at least find 300 MP. So...

Here is what I came up with:

280 (actual 285gr) Accurate RNFPGC. .4525
25.0 300MP CCI 350 (I started at 23.5)
Starline Cases.
BAC lube.
Temp. 87* Hum.79% Overcast.
Competition Electronics Pro-Chrono.

1680 avg. fps @15' with an es of 20fps over 5 rounds!
No sticky extraction or overly flattened primers, or any other unusual signs, can't really tell about leading right now as the barrel is soaking with some Hoppes in it right now, will know more when I run the patches through. I fired a total of 30 rounds of different loads.

If I am out hunting deer and piggies, and I happen across a bear, I don't think I will have any worries as far as power goes.

I don't know how this load shoots for accuracy yet, will have to get to the longer range, but if the es is any indication it should do pretty good.

Recoil was stiff, but smooth, I knew I was shooting a strong load but it was a "slow" kick.
A 255gr boolit with 8.2gr of Tin Star @ 1040fps felt like a bb gun in comparison.

I also tested an Accurate 255 RNFPGC with the 25.0 charge of 300MP, they were running in the 1790's, but I only had two rounds of those, and I think at this point that the 300MP is better for heavier boolits.

Any idea how 300 will do with non magnum powders and lighter charges? Is it more like 296 that has to be pushed hard, or 2400 that has a broad range of useful pressures?

And which accurate bullet are you using?

Your guess is as good as mine...
I used magnum primers because I usually get best results with ball powders with them, so that is what I started with. My load is purely for woods work @ 150 or less so I don't expect to shoot a lot of them.

Purely guesswork on my part, but I think it likes to be used like 296/H110.
My results that I posted are my first use of 300MP. and they seem to be OK in my rifle.

I found a load on loaddata that got me started...

Don't remember the mold # and I am not feeling good enough right now to dig through Tom's websight or my papers,, sorry.

Oh yeah,, no leading.

Have you tried a lighter boolit? I have the 230gr RCBS Cowboy mold and I've been working up a load for mine without a lot of success. Since handgun powder is impossible to find these days, I'm stuck with Unique, Red Dot and what Bullseye I got left.

Right now I'm using Unique but would be very interested in suggestions for my 45LC Henry.

Thx

I would suggest that you stick with what you have, 300MP seems to work better with heavy for cal. bullets.

Also, after a little more testing, I am going to stay below 24gr in my Henry.
