Has anybody ever tried to make your own lead shot drippers? I was thinking about trying to make some any suggestions?

Buy LOTS AND LOTS of drill bits!!! Those tiny boogers break real easy.

IFFFF you really want to test your patience make them yourself. Im stubborn and decided to make my own. Like mentioned above, buy lots of bits. I first faced off the head of a 3/8 bolt on the lathe. Just enough to make it flat. Next I drilled out the bolt from the threaded end till a little nub appeared on the head of the bolt. My cheap chinese lathe isn't very accurate so I did punch through on a few and had to start over. Once you get past this anneal the head of bolt with a torch. Next I machined a flat on the bolt where I was going to drill the dripper. Set a verry light dimple with a center punch to start the bit as they wonder with out it. Make sure the bit is perfectly 90 to your spot or you'll break it. I did the drilling on the milling machine also as I could get really fine adjustments side to side and back and forth. Go sloooow and use a pair of magnifiers to see whats happening. Proceed with breaking a bit anyways. When you break a bit don't try another in that spot as they will keep snapping off. Repeat all steps till you finally get one done. Sucesssss! Now make 5-6 more to go. That $45 off EBAY doesn't seem like such a big investment after all the hassle.

They are worth the price of the bits alone...not counting the hours!! Your time is better spent making shot, after all shotmaking is a lot of work in itself.

I bought my pan with drippers on eBay for 130 bucks.

I've been tinkering with it and have produced about 75 pounds of useable shot so far.

I need a better / biegger holder.

I've also been told to use water soulbe hydraulic oil for the coolant.

Or shotoil

And still tweaking the stand and stuff.

Was shooting it today and scored a 18. I'm new to the sport so I think that's great.

3" by 6" of flat stock for the front. Drill and tap 7/8"od bolt holes. Mig a small box to the front that can hold a couple pounds of lead. Use a flat file to create a channel in the large threads. Make a witness mark on the metal so you know the bottom of the bolt. Once the lead is melted, open up the bolt until the desired thickness shot will fall into a bucket of water. You can make two or three flats for your desired shot size. Heat it with a blow.

I have the same pan/drippers, what kind of heater set up are you using? I also use that red antifreeze but i think my heat is the issue with my shot of late.

I'd think there would be a way to hop up a lee melting pot to make a shot dropper. At least some sort of dodad that you could set underneath and run molten lead into/shot out of.
