I have cast a couple hundred slugs using a Lee 54 cal REAL mold that weigh right at 370 grains when cast with wheel weights. using some old WAA20F1 wads I can easily push them thru the IC choke tube, If I use WAA20 wad they are hard to push by hand.
I know I will have to figure the load height for these using flat wadding. I want to use Rem STS hulls and Win 209 primers, haven't figured what powder to use. Anyone have any experience with something like this?

I used Alliant ProReach with the 54 REAL; did not shoot for velocity but recoil was similar to a Federal Trueball slug I would guess in the 1,350 to 1,450 range. I also shot the Lee 58 Traget Mini with ProReach.

Since then I have been working on a low recoil rounds for my daughter; .575 roundball at 1,100 fps looks like the best choice.

I read about 20 pages of posts before I asked my question, but didn't see that one. That link is pretty interesting but i'm not interested in buying a stronger gun and being a guinea pig with some of that info.. Just looking for something reasonable to use , Lyman manual should be in tomorrow/thanks

For loads to be used in a "regular" strength shotgun, starting powder charges would approximate lead (and only lead) shot load powder charges using this technique.

The principles of slugging the bore, wad-slug fit (you want a slip fit, abt 8-10 lbs of pressure required to push it through the bore), and loading are still applicable.

So, not quite sure of your question exactly, other than to say "yes, lots of poeple have experience w similar loading". But if its a powder charge starting point: you shoudl be lloking for lead shot loading data using your components (i.e. same primer, hull, wads) and 370gr shot weight (or abt 7/8 oz).

that will only get you 1000-1200fps w the slug, estimated. but its a start and is usually safe from a pressure standpoint.

Other, more learned folks, can certainly weigh in.

I guess that I just have too much time on my hands since I retired. I really have no need or use for these it just looked like something to load for the grandkids to have fun shhooting.

If they just need to be "pretty accurate" and low recoil, i have loaded many wadcups w a 58-cal ball and light charge of green dot, 14gr I think, for easy plinking loads. Those are easy.
i used them here:

.

I only use commercial Foster-type slugs in my 20ga Deerslayer - They've always worked perfectly for me (if it ain't broke, I don't fix it).
