Fellas, I've got a Ruger 77/357 stainless with the black plastic stock, that, to me, looks ugly and feels bad in the hand. I have selected a Boyd's hunter stock, but the choice comes down to color. It's between the pepper laminate or the nutmeg. I favor the nutmeg, as I'm old school. But the pepper would also look good with the stainless steel.:-?

What do you think?

I have used the "PEPPER" thumb hole on several rifles, it all depends on what you like.

I'll take another look at the thumbhole model. It still comes down to the color though.

I vote nutmeg if it matters :)

Pepper, just to be different. Besides, it does look good with a stainless rifle.

Get either one. Then buy a nice piece of English walnut and use the Boyd's as a pattern. Or use the synthetic stock as a pattern for a walnut stock and reshaped the turned blank into something to your liking.

I think that Boyd's has walnut stocks available.

I put a Boyd's pepper laminate on wife's SS Model 70 Winchester. Look's great in my opinion.

That pepper gray laminate does look good with stainless. This one isn't a Boyd's model, but I believe it's the same color laminate.

I put a Boyd's laminate in Royal Jacaranda on my Winchester 70 for a bit more bling. :bigsmyl2:

I have not found the thumbhole stocks to be comfortable. Its a personal choice

I bought a stocky stocks thumb hole laminate for my odd six bolt gun.
Custom made green/black matte stain.
I get all kinds of comments when Im at the range.
shoots a tad bit larger (3/8 in @200 yards VS 1/4 in @ 200 yards) than the bench rest stock I had, but weights 4 pounds less.

I stumbled across this on a search. I'm thinking of that exact setup if Boyds ever gets their BRNO 602 pattern. Is that Royal Jacarda the standard finish or the high gloss?

That's the standard finish with a coat of gun stock wax on it. It also has the following extra$ added on - custom LOP, fore end tip, grip cap, pachmayr decelerator pad, white line kit, and laser cut checkering.

thanks for the info it looks good! Glad I asked. I would have ordered the high gloss. Now I'll go with standard and put a coat of wax. Now I just need someone to lend them a CZ 550 mag for them to program.
