I picked up my prescriptions at a Meijer store today and decided to check out the sporting goods dept. I was surprised to find an entire shelf filled with newly made .30 cal. and .50 cal. metal ammo cans. The .30 cans were $20 and the .50 cans were $25. Robert

Last month the local HF had 30 cal plastic ammo boxes on sale for $4.99/ea. quality was good as MTM stuff so I bought 6.

Wars are winding down, ammo supplies coming back up from Lake City for civilians, and the ammo
box makers are not selling everything they can make to Uncle Sam . . . . . .so trying to sell them to
us directly.

Hardcast, I saw the same ammo cans in our local Meijer's store. They were made in China!

Yeah, I was surprised to see fresh ones in Walmart too, for more than I expected from Walmart.

I bought a big bunch of both size cans after the non-war in `Nam was over. I believe I paid a few bucks each for the 30 cans and I think about 4 - $5 for the 50 cans from a surplus store outside Detroit. They had a literal mountain of each size can.Robert

Yep, my local big box store had some new ones. Can't remember the price, prolly 'cause I have more ammo boxes than I have space to put 'em in...

I have seen these cans at Meijer and Sam's Club. Maybe it is just me but they look wider than a normal GI 50 cal army can. And yes they are from China.

Wideners has been selling new ones for well over a year now. I've bought a case of each size. Shipping has increased the cost a lot. But I got new cans for at the price they charge locally for used beat up ones. Thy are made in the USA.

I found a bunch of'em at a place called Tool Time. Their made in the Edmonton area, and they all have sticker's with bar code's on the bottom stating so.

Not many folks have stuff to put into them, they should be free. For each ammo can you buy, you should get a powder jug storage container for free...

I remember back in the `60`s farmers having a .30 ammo can attached to either a tractor or a piece of farm equipment to be used as a tool box. More often than not they would paint the can the same color as the equipment it was attached to, unless it was John Deere or Oliver green.Robert

And that's exactly what I did, but I didn't paint it to match the color of my tractor...

My father was in the Army in World War II and he bought ammo cans from the local Army Surplus store. He used them for about everything that he wanted to keep dry and rust free, tools, ammo, etc.. We stored and carried just about everything but food in them. They were dirt cheap back then. Good memories and I can still smell the order of the chemicals used in the cans.

Sticker shock when I see the current crop! I'm in a time warp remembering $4 ea or 3 for $10 as about normal. Guess that's one more negative aspect of being an old fart!

Just got an EBlast from Midway. Got a sale deal on for a .30 cal. can inside a .50 cal. can for $22. The paint looks new in the pic, I`m just wondering if they are new cans or repainted besides wondering where they were made?Robert
